Overall, a pretty good basketball game

EA Sports brought out NBA Live 06 as way to combat the Sony version NBA 06. Now there are a fair few basketball simulations out there nowadays for all sorts of consoles but I found this version on the PSP to be a pretty good one.

NBA Live 06 brings a new feature to the table that some of the other games don't have and that is that certain players have special or unique abilities that make them better than other athletes in the game. These are the superstar players. If you press a combination of buttons they unleash moves that other players simply cannot do.

There are four types of superstars in this game. There are the power stars like Shaquille O'Neal. Then you have your highflyers like Dwyane Wade. Next we have the playmakers such as Tony Parker. And finally we come to the scorers like Kobe Bryant.

If you have played previous versions of this game you will know that it used to feature the 'freestyle' stick but this is no longer a feature which is a setback but can be overcome by getting used to the alternative controls. I liked the general gameplay although the computer opponents at times are not that challenging. I found that even if I raised it to the highest difficulty level it was still quite easy to win games with a bit of time and practice.

The PSP Version includes the 'All Star Weekend' feature that allows you join the Dunk Contest, three-point shootout, all star game and the Rookie vs. Sophmore game. In addition to all this you can also play for a single season or playoff run.

Another new feature that has been added which is good is the Superstar Challenge. This game mode lets you attain certain stats to move on. Therefore, you may have to score 60 points to move on to the next level. Easier said than done sometimes so this all adds to the replay value and is a nice new addition.

The music in this game is great featuring alot of Hip-Hop and Rap tracks to listen to you while you play. However, the commentary is not that good in this and I would leave the sound off as it gets irritating after a while.

You can also play in multiplayer mode either online or if you are sitting next to someone. This is always great fun rather than just playing against the computer.

This is a great game in general and if you are going to get any basketball game then I wouldn't look much further than this one as it's good fun.
