Advantages: graphically great, frantic addictive gameplay

Disadvantages: difficult

I recently received a PSP as a present, and went to buy a few games for it. Now, call it sensible, or call it nerdy, I always research the games that i am going to buy at sites like Gamespot. Pursuit force scored very highly with them, and also received some great feedback from members there. That was enough for me, and i bought a copy immediately. I was able to pick it up for peanuts on ebay, I think it cost me about four quid.

The game itself is produced by bigbig, and puts you in the guise of a newly recruited cop, in the new pursuit force team. You are there to battle against the five gangs that are wreaking havoc in the city. You are given a series of missions to complete, and they are generally set against the clock. This makes the game very difficult, as you not only have to complete the objectives of that mission, but also reach the destination required in time.

Each time you complete a mission, your reputation gets better, and eventually your rank goes up. The higher your rank, the more missions you get (and the tougher they get too!!). Missions are varied, and you get to try many vehicles, for example boats, bikes, cars. Some missions are on foot, but generally speaking you are in a vehicle of some kind.

Graphics are great for the PSP. Smooth running, and very few noticeable quirks. At some points you can experience a small amount of slow running, which is annoying, but generally it runs well. There are some 'edges' to the graphics, so its not as sharp looking as games like tomb raider, but its really suited to this edgy type of gameplay.

I would describe this as a kind of grand theft auto game, but this time you are on the good side. You can jump from car to car, taking control as you go. If the car belongs to target, you get to deliver some rough justice to them, using some of the various weapons in the game. One of the best things in the game, is when you have been doing really well, you get the option to jump to a car, and the motion slows down, giving you time to shoot in mid-air!!! I think this concept was first used in the old Max Payne games, but it is super-cool, and looks great.

So overall, I would say that this is a top game, but it is hard. It is not a game that you can just play a bit. You really need to devote some time to it. That said the missions are short enough, and it is possible to try a mission, and then give it a rest for a while. The action is frantic, and really good fun. Visually it is pretty stunning, and the gameplay is attractive, and easy to control. The game is perfect for the PSP, and I give it four stars. It only failed to get five, because it gets so insanely difficult the further you progress.

So, deal out some rough justice, grab a copy today!!!

Summary: A great game, not for the beginner though!!!
