Viewtiful Joe: Redhot Rumble is a pretty solid title, with the game's focus being to amass points through taking down bad guys, collecting coins, and dealing damage to the bosses. You have to do more of these activities than your cohorts, introducing a wildly competitive element to the game that is a lot of fun if you play the game with a few friends.
This is a game that makes everything easy for you; it knows that the PSP controls are awkward, and so makes them very simple and intuitive; you have a few attacks, a few movement buttons, and that's it. Executing some stunning looking moves, that spoof the nature of overly bombastic films, is as simple as pressing a few buttons. There's also quite a bit to do here; the story mode, the main attraction, has some unlockables, while there are also tonnes of other mini games to try your hand at, and even the brilliant option to play with your PSP-owning friends. However, that said, the gameplay does become fairly old after a while, and there's the feeling that there should be more here to support a rather good idea.
Though I admire its decision to make things simple for the player, that is also to the game's detriment, as there's really not that much to the gameplay. There's plenty of stylistic and visual flair, but that cannot make a game alone, and the admittedly fun multiplayer element simply isn't enough to justify buying the game. Nevertheless, I do enjoy it (and particularly the nice touch of adding Devil May Cry characters to play as), and as long as you don't pay too much for it, it is worth getting.
I bought this game having previously seen it on the Gamecube, and this PSP version is as good as the Gamecube version - i.e. absolutely stunning!. The style of this game is very retro with colourful cell-shaded graphics whichbrialliantly complement the retro side-scrolling retro gameplay.
The fantastic visuals in this game are a treat to your eyes!
You are thrown into the game story's with Captain Blue has retiring from being a superhero and deciding to direct a movie of his own. Your player is a wannabe super-hero who idolises Captain Blue and you hope to impress in the audtions - showing off all your moves in multiples scenes! Great fun!
This game offers me a nostaligic platformer with contemporary graphics, characters and gameplay. This game combines stunning moves with beautiful visuals.
The GOOD Points:
Graphics - The bright and beautiful graphics bring the game to life. These beautiful visuals enhance the gameplay and really make use Joe's VFX moves. Cell shaded comic book style graphics add a unique touch to other PSP titles around. A real USP of the game. Combined with the rapid pace of the gameplay you are left with an awesome spectacle.
Gameplay - this is fast and frenetic and thus can be a lot of fun. The fights are rapid and flash which allows you to have a considerable enjoyment playing the game. There are over 20 characters which give the game depth and extends its lifespan.
Story mode - this is the best and most involving part of the game as it takes you on a journey to emulate your hero captain Blue. You are taken on a variety of movie sets which are fresh and bright.
Extras - there are few extras on top of the Gamecube version such as the inclusion of Dante from Devil May Cry as well as Trish, Vergil, Marionette and Sparda. Also the single player mini game mode has a lot of content to keep you entertained.
Gamesharing - you can actually share some of the contents of the game with only one UMD. This means you can link up wirelessly with a friend without the game.
The BAD POINTS:
The game is too short and I found that I completed the game in days. I found that game did not have enough in it to keep me gripped for long and was ultimately left disappointed with the lack of playing hours.
OVERALL: This is a fantastic, unique, fast-paced PSP title that rises above the rest. If you are bored of the old Tekken-style formula or want something different, this is a fantastic game that I would recommend to anyone.
I must be the only person to buy this game but it is higly good fun. The game involves you fighting off opponents while you try and defend again eniems, and beat your oppononts score.
The game is based around you all being actors (well stuntmen) for a new movie and all trying to get the lead. Now to do so you have to take part in all the acts/challenges/levels where you have to do more damage to bosses than your opponent characters, beat them up or beat more enimes than them and even collect more gems etc than them. There is lots to do in the game and he moves are cool and fresh. Even with some slow time power ups and stuff.
This game is very fast paced and will make you think about good the game is now for such a good price. Seriously its quite fun. Very arcade like game.
