Advantages: Great gameplay and career mode
Disadvantages: Average graphics
The virtua tennis games line began around 10-15 years ago in arcade machines, since then the games have developed massively and have made their way on to games consoles. There have been quite a few versions, 4 to be precise, and they have all been popular. But can this new game meet the expectations that have been set before it by previous games?
The gameplay is pretty similar to previous versions, brilliant. Running and turning is easy to do, but it does vary from player to player. There are three different shot types that can be hit, lob, topspin and slice. There are many different moves that players can do, like say diving or hitting a shot through their legs, these all make it much more enjoyable to play. There are also different modes for controlling your partner in doubles mode, you can tell them to go close up or stay on the baseline. The gameplay is what takes this game away from its opposition.
The graphics are average, and are not the best part of this game. The lighting is reasonable, the colours are very good, but the player faces and stadiums are not that well defined. If you want a virtua tennis game with great graphics go for Virtua tennis 3.
There are 4 different game modes. The first is career mode, in this mode you battle to become the best player in the world, and you will find yourself playing it most. Mini game mode speakes for itself as does quick match. Exhibition is the same as quick match except you choose who you will control and play against, in quick match mode players are chosen at random.
All in all virtua tennis is another classic sports game from Sega. It has been around for 2 years now so it is already a classic and only costs a measly £10. The gameplay is fantastic, and the career mode is great, but the graphics dissapoint. Still, I recommend if you want a psp tennis game you go for this.
Summary: A classic psp game

AmyAmy - 08.05.08 Nice review. My brother loves the PSP, but plays fighting games. He's only six...I wish he played more suitable games such as this! xx |
