After playing enjoying the original wipeout game for playstation so much, I was excited to get my hands on this PSP game when it came out. Thankfully the controls are much easier to use than the earlier playstation one version and the game play is much more developed which is to be expected.
It's a racing game but the fact it's about spaceships makes it more interesting than most of the standard racing games which are usually about cars. Obviously the aim is to complete as many races as possible and collect medals along the way. You can collect and fire a variety of different weapons as you race and gain advantages over your opponents this way as well as standard overtaking. There are also a number of different racing leagues to complete with varying difficulty levels so there are always more aspects of the game to complete after you have raced on all of the tracks.
The ships are responsive to the controls and the addition of a pit lane which rejuvenates your ship means there are less interruptions from unwanted ship explosions. The downloadable extras are great and I would highly recommend them as there is loads of bonus material available - extra tracks, medals and modes etc so it really is worthwhile to do. You will be missing out on some of the most enjoyable circuits of the game if you don't take a look at these. I think it would be better if these extras were just included on the disk with the rest of the game.
It is also good because it is one of those games you can just dip in and out of - you can have a race here and there and then come back to it later rather than needing absolute silence and not to be interrupted for half and hour. I really enjoy playing it.
You can get hold of it for a great price now that it has been out for a few years so I really recommend it to anyone who likes racing games.
