There is something about this walkman that I like, it just feels right. The buttons are well located and it is easy to use, 2 good AA batteries will last about 16 hours. The supplied headphones were very comfortable but it was only about 6 months before they packed up and the sound only came out of one ear. The Bass Boost is very good ... on this walkman. There is also a Normal/Chrome tape selector. One nuisance is that it does not have auto stop on rewind or fast forward and a few times I have left it rewinding by mistake and have found next day the batteries are flat as the buttons don't click off by themselves. The radio is an analogue FM/AM rotary dial tuner. This sounds better than my Sony walkman, however has developed a fault after about a year and it is the same fault I have experienced with other Panasonic systems more than once. The speaker channels pack up, by this I mean the headphones only work out of one ear and this is a fault of the walkman and not the headphones. It must be a loose connection somewhere. I had a Panasonic Record Player and the same thing happened, only the one speaker worked in the end. Priced about £15, if you want a good walkman then this is ideal, but if you want a good walkman which will last a long time, this is probably not the best choice.

For the almost budget price of 30quid I was pretty surprised with the overall deal with this little machine. Unlike many of the more expensive players it actually still has a built in AM/FM radio. Pretty nifty as it can store 10 station presets on each band. Unfortunately though, the reception is pretty poor as it mainly relies on the ... headphone lead as an aerial. Walking around holding a lead in the air tends to make you look silly! The tape player itself is another kettle of fish. Although it's not quite as loud as many other portable systems, notably walkmans, it still manages to maintain a certain strength in the bass thanks to a fantastic XBS circuit which keeps things full on. I never thought I would need to turn the XBS off, but to be honest, having regularly listened to some tapes on full volume, the bass can create a headache. Another point this reminds me of is that a lot of loud listening abuses the otherwise perfect-sounding headphones supplied. Mine now rattle with deep bass, and it is possible to hear the cones snap into strange contourtions now, so beware! A shrewd investment in the headphone department may be needed. Battery life is supposedly 24 hours of play. This is obviously increased with better batteries. For some reason, the ones from Sainsbury's last ages! A major gripe I have is build quality. Right from the start I have had problems with the buttons not working properly. When tuning the radio now, both the + and - buttons seem to both go up the scale most of the time, with the - one sometimes actually going down like a good boy. Also the station button to switch stations often advances more than one station. Finally... it is easy to make tapes sound wonky if you have it in your jeans pocket... tip - put a tissue in between the unit and your thigh - it reduces the impact when walking! However, apart from that last moan (you really do get what you pay for), this thing actually is worth the 30 pounds asking price, especi
ally seeing as it even has a "high position" switch for the low noise tapes... and that wonderfully clear bass.

I don't believe I even want to waste your time in drudging through the entire way this sytem works: the title to this opinion says it all. The single most bad decision in my entire life - after getting married!!! Just kidding - was buying this stereo system. The second most bad was not taking it back to the store from where ... I bought it. When I listened to this stereo in the store, they were somehow able to produce a CD to play on it that made it sound like the best value for money machine they had on the shelf. The thing was, that when i returned it home, I could find no such CD. No Acoustic Guitar, No Jazz, No Rock, No Classic, No Vocal, No Metal, No Fusion-Rock-Jazz, No Country, No Easy Listening, NO RADIO... NO NOTHING!!!! The radio reception on this machine is crap, with no selection for stereo or mono, the sound virtualizer and extra bass do nothing to the speakers apart from either make them more tinny or smooth out the crackling in the radio reception, and the best way to improve the radio, CD, cassette sound quality out of this machine is by increasing the volume and pissing off your neighbours, which isnt a good idea if you live in the city, not so bad if you live in a shed on a hillside in Wales, but even as a welsh shepherd you would have the foresight to spend more and get a better quality machine!!!! My advice: DONT BUY IT
