Advantages: cheap, pretty and reliable
Disadvantages: not the smallest walkman around (but not too far of)
A good bargain for a reliable and excelent quality tape player. For only £32.00 notes it really is a worthwhile purchase. The appearance is attractive with its cool silver effect and circular concaves complimenting the round shiny buttons. It is not particularly small but it is small enough for my liking and will fit in all my pockets without causing an obstruction. Because the buttons are 'feather touch', meaning they only have to be touched lightly to work because they are digitally connected, there is a hold switch which locks the bottons at whatever function is currently in place, be it playing or stopped. It comes with headphones which have the 'funny little knobbly bits' which fit snuggly in my ears and stay there so the sound quality can stay at its best at all times. It has an extra plug on the side of the normal phones socket for special headphones which can carry sound data up to your noggin better too. There are three bass settings; normal, mega and Sony's infamous groove bass which I am aware is superb in a Hi-Fi system but carries the capabilities to make you bleed out of every facial orrifice if used incorrectly while plugged directly to your bonce. I'd stick to the mega bass if your listening to anything as bassy as dance or hiphop. There is the Dolby NR (noise resistance) feature which can be turned on off. It is a nice feature for cutting out radio noise but on a radio-less Walkman it just muffles the music unless you are listening to talking (or taped radio for all you music theives 'n' pirates). I'm onto my second year of WM-EX404 ownership and not but a single problem. The battery life is a good while longer than any other walkmans I've owned too. For the same price I could have bought a WM-FX271, which doesnt use feathertouch buttons but has a radio. I chose this because radio is generally poo on walkmans and feathertouch is invaluable in terms of the life of a tape pla
yer because the constant pushing of buttons (on purpose and accidental without a hold switch) causes a surprisingly damaging amount of wear'n'tear on it. Buy this one!
