Usually I find that at around volume 2 (highest - 10) the loudness is sufficient. In terms of settings there are two levels of bass boost but I am able to pick out the low end without these. The supplied earphones are without volume controls, and are not particularly comfortable. Also the cord is fairly short in length but did last me a couple of years.

I have already used this on many CD singles that I carry around with me and I am beginning to see the benefits of it, even though initially I was confused about this feature. Is it worthwhile? Well, it can be if for example you burn your own CD’s and you have a number of tracks you don’t really want to listen to. Sony CD Walkman D-EJ955 ... comes with the typical Sony quality that we are all familiar with. It's design is striking and the brushed aluminium turns heads. The Jog Proof facility is excellent and I was surprised at how much bouncing around it takes until the CD starts to skip a bit. The remote control that is supplied with the CD player is one of the best inventions. It shows you all the info you need from track names times etc. It has a hold function too which I think is essential . Battery time could be better. Should come with a lovely pouch. Panasonic SL-MP 30 ... less useful, but then any mp3 player without a computer isn't so much fun. As always the included headphones don't really do the sound justice, but if you have a nice set of your own you shouldn't be too disappointed. While this player has the ability to play mp3's, has good sound, good anti-skip and a solid cd reading laser what can be annoying is the function. I'm so used to my mini-disc player controls being on my headphone lead, I tend not to take this out and about anymore as it's not much fun having to retrieve it from a bag to change volume, skip a track or read the stored information on the screen (oh yeah, it does that too and can tell you the name and compo...
