Advantages: SVCD, VCD, MP3, Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, Remote control, cheap
Disadvantages: Extremely lots of CD read errors, High battery usage: when possible use with A/C adapter
MP3-CD player are no more so new. VideoCD and MP3 CD player is something relatively new, but more exceptional... But the Elta 5781 additionnally supports the Super VideoCD format, allowing picture resolution of about 2/3 of the resolution of a DVD. This is a huge improvement in picture quality. The Elta 5781 CD player can play the following formats. - Super VideoCD - VideoCD 1.1 and 2.0 - CD containing MP3 (supports variable bitrates) - Normal audio CD. The device accepts the CD-R and CD-RW discs too. This product is featured with: - AC adapter - Remote control allowing OSD (On-Screen Display) - A/V (Audio/Video) stereo output. (This output is a 4 pin jack. You can use it with the included cable or you can use a 3 pins stereo jack and you've got a stereo line output to connect to your hi-fi) - headphone output. - A/V stereo cable - Microphone input for Karaoke mode. The device has a relatively small size, though it's a little bit thicker than a typical modern MP3-CD player. The LCD only displays track numbers. This is unpractical for MP3-CDs, but the price is very low too, so I wouldn't blame anyone for this. But there is a big problem: the device is unfortunately unsusable because of a very annoying critical detail. The CD drive is extremely unstable, constantly jumps and make a lot of read-errors... Playing VideoCD or Super-VideoCD is a total nightmare. When you play a video, the picture or the sound or both is disformed due to read errors. Every 30 seconds, the video stops for several seconds while the drive try to read the data. With MP3-CD, about every 30 seconds, the music has strange noises or several seconds are randomly skipped. Using audio-CD, the smallest vibrations renders the device totally unusable. The device is totally unusable in a car. Even when I'm waiting at a red light, the CD pla
r>yer is often unable to read any CD due to the imperceptible vibrations of my S-Class Mercedes. So really my advice would be: don't buy it, unless they produce a new version with a fixed CD drive...
