I have recently purchased a Sony D-EJ815 and am very pleased with the product. Not only is the CD walkman slimline, with dimensions 131.5 x 22.5 x 141.4 mm and weighing in at only 200 grams, it also offers excellent jog protection. I have been jogging with this product quite a lot and have never heard the CD skip. The D-EJ815 has all of the regular functions, including repeat, random and programmable play options, and AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiting System) in order to protect hearing by restricting volume. Supplied accessories are: LCD remote controlled headphones - The backlit remote control offers easy operation of all of the functions available on the CD walkman's body. It even has a HOLd function in order to prevent accidental operation of the walkman. Rechargable Batteries (2 x AA) - Sony Walkman rechargable batteries, specifically designed to give optimum performance, up to 76 hours playing time. The unit can also be used to charge batteries. Carrying Case - This soft bag protectes the unit when in use. External Battery Case - This holds two AA batteries and can be plugged into the unit in addition to the two already in the unit in order to increase battery life two fold without the need to carry seperate batteries or change them. The carrying case also has a seperate space for this case. AC Power Adaptor - This enables you to use the unit without running down batteries. The CD walkman is well laid out, as is the remote control, allowing simple and easy use. The remote clips onto clothing and can be easily operated up to one meter away from the CD unit. The remote is placed in the headphone line which is of total lenth of approximately 1.5m. The optical digital output function allows connection to a Mini-Disc player. This allows CD recording onto Mini-Disc at digital quality. The unit also supports CD information, where track names and artists can be transferred from CD to Mini-Di
sc without the need to program them into your Mini-Disc. Although the remote control is easy to operate, it can be difficult to change the Sound (Bass levels), Display, Play Mode and Program functions as the buttons for these are located on the rear of the remote and this side faces the clothing as it is where the clip is. The buttons for these functions are also quite small, however are spaced well enough for good control. The clip on the rear of the remote rotates to allow the remote to be positionned in many different positions. The unit is hard wearing, with a strong aluminium lid (available in silver or blue) and plastic body. The metal buttons only protrude slightly so are protected whilst still easy to use. In conclusion the D-EJ815 is a good quality CD walkman, comprising a slim and light shape with good functions and battery life. The remote control adds a new and advantageous element to the usual CD walkman and the unit is compatable with digital stereo systems and Mini-Discs. If you do not want to pay high prices for a Mini-Disc player you can pick up this product for much less than the original launch price was £120 in August 2000. I got mine in a closing down sale for £70, so prices have fallen to give excellent value for a product which is only 8 months old.
This little CD player is one of the best around. Although it is slightly dear the sound quality is very good and if you want to take it for a jog it will give a near perfect performance. One of its best feature is the LCD display remote control which is easy to use and well lit up. In addition the rechargeable batteries provided perform quite well although not quite reaching the optimum claimed on the box. Finally the the design is very elegant and the blue colour makes it look very expensive, which can give you a mixed response.
