Advantages: Excellent build quality, Superb battery life, ATRAC cd compatible

Disadvantages: A little expensive but quality comes at a price!

The Sony DNE-1 is a great CD player for people who want more than just an "ordinary cd player". It is especially good for those who have a large cd collection and maybe want to listen to hours and hours of music without needing to change either the batteries or the CD.

This is helped greatly by both the batteries which last well over 120 hours (it plays for about 3 days constantly) and the ATRAC playing functions. ATRAC is a fairly new technology allowing you to burn up to 30 cd's onto a single CD-R or CD-RW disc. This does require a little time and patience but it helps to have a fairly new PC and fast CD Writer.

It comes with its own CD burner software but be warned! the software only works with windows versions above 9x. It does require a CD burner but if you have none of those then the unit does still play standard CD-R CD-RW discs with un-noticeable battery and quality loss.

The only thing I can picky about is the headphones. The headphones that come with the unit are a little cheap and nasty so those of you who don't mind splashing out on a some new one's will be greatly rewarded.

The unit is quite light (approx 200g) although not as light as previous cd players i have owned (see panasonic sl-ct790). The build quality of the player is exceptional, far better than all of my previously owned CD players.

The player comes with a soft carry case to prevent scratches from occuring and a charging stand which is quite neat. The cd player has built in 8MB chip so the CD player spins for about 10 seconds and plays practically a whold track without having to spin! this is great for an antishock and also saves battery life.
Overall the cd player is excellent. I suppose quality does come at a price!

UPDATE - In response to certain questions about the CD player not melting i would like to point out that the melting of my Panasonic SL-CT790 was not deliberate and so i have avoided earlier m
istakes with this cd player. The Lid and the CD player in general does however, feel much better qualtiy built and more resistant to accidents than my previ
ous cd players. Also hope the new layout makes this review easier to read. thanx
