Advantages: Sound quality, ease of use, looks very nice.
Disadvantages: Not as small or light as more recent models, but cheaper.
If anyone is looking for a good quality MD player at a reasonable price, this is defintely one that should be on their 'to look at' list. Also, if anyone is thinking of getting an MP3 portable, I'd advise them to have a look at this as well, mainly due to the ease of changing music when on the move - just slip a new MD in, rather than having to ind a PC to dock with, which may not be possible.
It's not as small or as light as the recent models by Sharp and Sony, but is still reasonably small at 9 * 8 * 2.5 centimetres and 216 grammes approx, and very usable. Sound quality is good, it has 40 seconds anti-shock, battery life is acceptable, getting nearabouts the stated life of 10 hours playback, 8 hours recording with just the Lithium-Ion battery or 16 hours playback, 11 hours recording with the Li-Ion and an AA battery in the removable external pack which adds an extra couple of centimetres to the width when on. It has a backlit remote which unlike the Sony remotes, you can simply plug a different pair of headphones into. Also it has a large jog-dial for titling tracks quickly and easily. All in all, I like this unit. It's a big step up over my last player/recorder, the Sharp 702 and I woould recommend it to anyone. I got mine from Richer Sounds - look in What Hi-Fi magazine and theri advert in there is normall a few quid cheaper than the shop price.
