Advantages: good sound quality, price, ease of use

Disadvantages: Could look better, no remote control

I bought this Mini-Disc player/recorder after having several CD players that all broke after less than a year. When I got it I was surprised at how small it was, and also happy that it didn?t have a compartment for the battery sticking out the top.

Instructions
I found recording my first Mini-Disc very easy all I had to do was follow the step-by-step instructions that were supplied on a different sheet of paper from the instruction manual. This page also had instructions on how to use the Mini-Disc player. The instruction manual was also very easy to understand and was also laid out in a step-by-step style making using the Mini-Disc player very easy.

Recording
Recording is very good and there is a choice of length which I find very useful. There are four recording modes, Stereo, LP2, LP4 and Mono. Stereo is 80mins long and has very good sound quality, LP2 is 160mins long and has good sound quality and LP4 is 320mins long and has ok sound quality. The only problem that I have experienced while recording is that on some of my CDs it doesn?t make new tracks so it just ends up that I have a whole album as one track. The only way to stop this that I can find is by sitting beside the Mini-Disc player and pressing the Record button at every new track and this creates new tracks. Although this is very annoying it isn?t a fault of the Mini-Disc.

Playing
The player has good sound quality and has very easy to use menus that can change the amount of bass of which there are three levels, name tracks (but not when it is playing) or choose the play mode from random, repeat etc and also a display choice between how long left, how long has been played and the name of the track if any. I would prefer it if the Mini-Disc had a remote contro
l in the earphone lead to make it easier to change tracks and turn it up.

Looks
This isn?t a bad looking Mini-Disc player and looks ok but why does that matter when it will be in your pocket for
most of the time you are going to be using it for.

Overall
I think that this is a good Mini-Disc player despite its small problems. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cheap Mini-Disc player as it is very good and the sound quality is good.

I have a remote control with my Sony MD player/recorder, and yes it makes things so much easier. Perhaps if you can get a hold of one it'll fit your Sharp MD
masternewt
