I would like to first point out that the Sony MZ-E500 I am reviewing is an import from Japan so there will be differences in the UK version. Despite the fact that this minidisc is rather steep in price for just a playing facility I think it is definitely money well spent. This remains a class act with the best feature being the great remote with a superb back lighted LCD. The design is not breathtaking, more efficient, and most importantly it does not weigh down your pocket. For most people a dedicated player may not be the thing but for those with access to a recorder it is far more sensible- why pay the extra money for a player when you can spend the money on upgrading features. This new player from Sony does everthing you could think of, and its far cheaper than comparable ones. Some of Sony's new players don't have a remote control or reachargeable battery. This has the new redesigned remote control, and a NiCd reachargeable stick type battery and charger. I've been getting about 15-20 hours out of it. Apparently, with the external battery case you can get 45 hours on one AA. The player also features MDLP, which is the new recording format where you can store up to 4 times the normal recording time on one minidisc. If, like me, you don't have a recorder which has MDLP, then this is pretty useless. The anti-shock is 40 second ...
