Advantages: very small, new remote, music

Disadvantages: price, some people will find that the buttons are too small......

I read the specs and knew it would be small but DAM IS IT SMALL!...when you first pick it up you then start to realise just how small the MD is. Very small and light. Even with the extra dry battery cell attached its still light and easily pocketable.

I've had 2 previous MD's before. The MZ R30 and the MZ R50 for the last 3 years.

The MZ50 served me very well and I love it when I bought it and still continue to do so. But it has one slight problem, it is a bit heavy and in my opinon this is its only downfall and at the time of purchase it was the smallest MD money could buy.

Back to the MZ E900. I decided to buy this as I wanted a very small and light MD and the battery time is truely amazing. It does last and last. Again one slight negile here its a Nickel Metal Hydride battery so it will suffer the memory lost efffect and get weaker with use as you charge it more and will need replacing approminately 300 charges. I thought this was bad at first then figured that if it plays for about 80hrs that'll last me for at least 5 days if not more lets say to be on the safe side. So it'll work out that it'll last me about 70 charges a year so the battery will last me about 4 years. So when thinking about it this way it makes perfect sense. By that time I *probably* would have bought something else) maybe Mini DvD...lol...

Its has quite a few nice features. The way you have a 7 step bass and treble control is very good and making listening to different types of music good. You then save them to 2 sound settings for quick reference and is very quick to make changes to them if you wish.

The remote I love. Its stylish and slick. It does resemble the older MZ R50 remote instead of hte MZ R90 style thin ones. I love it and it has a great feature that I was lacking with the MZ R50 that it has a back light remote so now when walking in the dark I can look at the remote and see the song title. But the remote with e
ither of them you get so accustom to it that you don't need to look at to operate fully. Shows great design and thinking.

The sound is very good like all the Sony MD's I've ever had. If you've heard a Sony MD then you know what to expect.

One slight nigle is that hte remote head input bit is in the middle of the MD not the smartest place to put it and it looks less pleasing and would look much neater and clean if it was to the side like on the MZ R50.

Also it does make a sound when spining to action but I've had this with all the MD's I've had and this one is quieter then my friends MZ R90 and my own MZ R50.

When playing from off it does play much quicker then my friends MZ R90 and when searching for the next tracks it again is also quicker so this is a nice improvement on previous MD's by Sony. But my trusty MZ R50 is still the speed king when it comes to playing and searching for songs. This is because with the newer model MDs they include a system to preserve more battery life so I think the trade off is well worth it. As the MZ R50 was very quick but the battery life was alright but nothing like this.

What else can I say? Its a very nice MD that I waited for and I love to use daily!...and the price of 230 for the UK model is not that expensive for an MD of this calibre and style as for me I like my music and love the quality and features which come with MD and I know I use it alot each day so the price seems less as I get a lot of use out of all my MD's.

But I am no rich guy so I had to save up for it but I definately think its well worth it.

If you want a good MD player get a MZ E900!

Sounds great but a little bit out of my price range I think. Does this mean you've got a second hand MD ecorder going cheap?
