Well I bought my Sony MZ-N505 about a month ago and WOW!, I just don't know how I lived with out it before, now I know other people say this but I really do mean it!. I owned a MZ R55 and I thought that was great and if truth be said I still think the sound and definition takes some beating and unless you have a very very very keen ear you will not tell the difference between most md players, well unless you go for a cheaper brand like Goodman's or JMC and then you will!. No the real benefits are in the extra's that this amazing bit of kit does; I have had endless fun downloading stuff from the net on to mini disks and boy oh boy can you squeeeeez it on, ... The MZN505 is one of Sonys early minidisc machines incorporating the NET MD, the first of which was the MZ-1. It charges a standard AA rechargeble, records and comes with a remote. I previously owned an MZR-500. In comparison, I am welcoming to the new NETMED function but am completely disappointed. First of all, no one told me that Id be waiting ages for an MP3 to convert to ATRAC before it is sent to the disc. On my laptop it took a couple of minutes per track saving me time on labelling tracks but thats it. Secondly SONY have put lots of restrictions on the number of transfers, and using copyrighted MP3s which is hassle, only to discover the further ... Read the complete review

At about £200 the Sony Net MD Walkman MZ-N505 provides a light compact and stylish solution to all your MP3 problems - well not quite!! The unit is about 70mm x 70mm x 20mm in size and is light enough that you will hardly even notice you have it on you. The device allows you to connect via USB to the your PC to allow recording of CDs about 5 or 6 times faster than normal and also the recording of MP3 files straight onto minidisc. The software provided allowing you to do this is the OpenMG Jukebox program which in a word is crap!! (More Later) The battery life of your normal rechargable battery is about 5 hours, but with a regular duracell, I have ... Read the complete review

Now before I start - I have never read the instruction manual! Ok, now that's out of the way, some comments on the MD player - for straightforward, good quality sound from a MD player - it's excellent. I've not gone into the full functions of the player as yet - as I say, I've not even read the manual. Some downsides though: Included software is awful! And would also prefer the headphone remote to have an LCD screen But the plus points: The MD player itself seems very straightforward to use, the buttons do exactly what they say, the sound quality is great and it's yet to skip a beat. But to use the software? Well ... Read the complete review
