The Sony MZ-R50 is definitely a piece of equipment to write a positive opinion on. I got mine as a Christmas present from my Dad last Christmas. To be honest I just started using it only last month. Dad wouldn’t be too pleased with that but he won’t know. The great thing about this portable minidisk player is that it is also capable of recording music straight onto it. This feature is a must have for people who are surrounded by new music everywhere, and who take their minidisk with them everywhere they go. Recording is extremely easy and anyone can figure it out. This may have been one of the first MD recorders that Sony released but it is still very good. The sound clarity is excellent and it comes boxed with most things you'll need to start recording, namely a digital optical cable that will set you back another £20 if it's not included. The jog dial is an excellent feature, and I am surprised that some of the newer players have discarded that idea. The dial makes editing very easy, and typing names is a good deal faster than with just buttons. Compared to some of the newer models this recorder is on the large size, but that is almost irrelevant as it will still fit in practically any pocket you care to slip ... Read the complete review

If you are looking for a piece of equipment to record CD's radio, Mp3's* or even double up as a dictaphone then this is the way forword. MiniDisc was developed by Sony in the heart of the technology world, -that is Japan. This is by far the way forword. Sony has many models out at the moment but the one to look out for is the MZR50 (no longer in production). If you don't wanna spend too much then get your sticky mitts on one of these second hand or refurbished. Remember, SONY all the way, they developed the system. *Mp3's record best if first the computer output is put through a stereo or hi-fi and then reccorded out of that. ... Read the complete review
