Advantages: Excellent recording, Crisp & clear playback
Disadvantages: LCD display not lighted so hard to see in the dark
The Sony MZ-R50 is definitely a piece of equipment to write a positive opinion on. I got mine as a Christmas present from my Dad last Christmas. To be honest I just started using it only last month. Dad wouldn’t be too pleased with that but he won’t know. The great thing about this portable minidisk player is that it is also capable of recording music straight onto it. This feature is a must have for people who are surrounded by new music everywhere, and who take their minidisk with them everywhere they go. Recording is extremely easy and anyone can figure it out. The manual is also very informative and detailed and incase of any minor problems this will help sort it out. This is a must have for anyone who loves new and interesting audio technology. I think Sony have come out with newer and more expensive models to this. Another great thing is that it doesn't skip at all! You could throw this thing against a wall and it still wouldn't skip. The blank minidisks go for around PDS1.20 (one pound twenty) I think (I got mine from the Far East real cheap). You get about 75 minutes of recording time on each disc, which is more than enough to record a large number of your favorite songs. For the most part, the MZ-R50 has lived up to expectation. The controls are largely intuitive and come in a very ordered, tight package. (although the proximity of the buttons to each other sometimes causes problems for fumbly fingers) One of the few negative points on this is the LCD display. It is not lighted and therefore becomes very difficult to see in the dark. The battery life is satisfactory for moderate users like me. If you are a music lover and need crisp and clear recordings of your own choice of music, then this and other similar products from Sony, would have to be your first choice.
