Introductions, introductions... where to start? ::Where this MD Player stands today:: I bought my MZ-R55 in January 2000, for about £180, and as such, I don't think it's on sale any longer anywhere. It actually compares surprisingly favourably to any you might find today, bar a few sticking points, which I'm about to outline... ::First impresions, all those years ago:: When I opened up the box, I remember being surprised at the tiny size of the machine. I had been expecting something closer in size to a cassette walkman. The newest minidisc recorders are really only a very small amount smaller than this one, and wouldn't ... Read the complete review

Mini discs and midi discs and compact discs and laser discs and slipped discs and discus throwers! I remember when a disc was something presented to a music star when they sold 1 million records, and it was gold! But times change, and change we must. We are told these things are for the better, and who am I to disagree. Well who am I full stop! I am a consumer, who spends his hard earned cash on technological gadgets and anything to give him more pleasure and an easier life. I used to love my Walkman, jogging along to the Eye of the Tiger (Rocky 2, sung by Survivor I think!) I always seemed to stay upbeat, and they never ... Read the complete review

I've had my MZ-R55 for three years now. All those years ago, in the days when MD's were still oblong shaped rather than square, this model was absolutely tiny! It looked great and was literally half the size of some other models on the market. I liked it so much that I got a friend to buy me one from Hong Kong about six months before they came on sale over here! The MZ-R55 was way ahead of its time when it was first launched, as I have already said, it was the first MD recorder to be only barely bigger than the MD's themselves. IT comes loaded with the usual functions you'd expect from Sony. Bass boost, synchronised recording, three input and ... Read the complete review

I have very mixed feelings about this model to be honest. When I first got it I was very impressed with it. It is so small and light that you don't even notice that you have it in your pocket at first. the blue shade of the model makes it look attractive and the carry case protects it very efficiently fomr scatching and dirt. However, I soon noticed though that the sound quality isn't that good on it. I know this is my own opinion and others would argue with me but for some reason it seems to cut out the actual music to a degree from a song. this means that the guitar part in a love song such as gone til november by wyclef jean is largely unhearable as you move ... When I saw this mini disc player, I just wanted it. I didn't really know what to expect, it was my first Mini Disc. I was an MD virgin. I wanted it to be gentle with me and take me through the complete MD experience, but simply and with sensitivity. The first problem I encountered was where to plug in the analogue input. The digital input was OK, until I read the manual carefully and found out that the Digital and Analogue inputs go in the same hole...how cool is that! (Should I keep the sexual metaphor going?...no) Other sockets are for the microphone and a line out. The buttons on the face are really quite straightforward, they are ... Read the complete review
