Advantages: Small and light. Value for money.
Disadvantages: No dislpay on remote.
I think the Sony MZ-R70 is the best out of the minidisc recordables available on the market today. I have tried a range of them, mainly Sony and the MZ-R70 is the one I actually bought. The MZ-R70 is a very small and compact MD, weighing hardly anything and worth all of the £200 I spent on it. It is available in black and silver and is attractive in both colours. The layout is original; instead of the regular, linear layout of the buttons they are circular and large so they are easy to use without accidentally pressing the wrong buttons which can be very annoying. The screen is also very easy to read and understand. This is a recordable minidisc, it accepts either a rechargeable nickel cadmium battery (supplied) or an LR6 (size AA) alkaline dry battery. Each with 3 hours recording, the rechargeable has 6.5 hours playback, and the LR6 has 17 hours. All the usual edit options are available, including being able to move tracks, and split them up. It also allows you to edit the tracks while it is recording. There is a synchro recording option as well allowing you to record in sync with the source player. You can choose from 3 bass levels and the changes are very noticeable. The sound quality is excellent. My complaints are that there is no display on the cable remote, and the display on the actual recorder could do with a back-light. There is also a bulge where the battery fits in. All in all though, it is very user friendly and also very durable: I dropped it the other day and there is no damage to the normal activity of the recorder. There is simply a scratch on it, and I dropped it from a fair height. The MZ-R70 costs just £199.99 and when I compared it to the Sony MZ-R90, costing an extra £50 if found there is only a little variation in size differentiating the two. The MZ-R70 is slightly larger in depth, but for a whole £50 less it?s a much better choice. Undoubtedly the Sony MZ-R90 is the smal
lest available at the moment and if you want the very best and are prepared to pay the extra £50 then go for that one, but the MZ-R70 is the best value for money.
