Advantages: Sleek and powerful
Disadvantages: Expensive
The Sony MZR-900 is the smallest Sony have made yet. Off a single internal rechargeable battery it can playback for an amazing 21 hours and record for up to 8! It boasts many improved features such as a new system of fitting music onto the minidiscs named MDLP. MDLP enables the user to record up to 4 times as much music on the disc, therefore achieving just over 5 hours worth of music on the single disc. The sound quality is as usual excellent and i wouldn't expect anything less from Sony. Both automatic and manual recording features allow the user to set the recording volume or let the recorder automatically alter itself depending on the instant conditions. Whilst recording you can title the tracks, thus making it easier as this operation need not be done afterwards-the main annoyance of these handy machines. The 40 second anti-shock system provides almost all the resistance you need to use the recorder. I have found, personally, that 40 seconds is usually enough although the music can sometimes jog if the recorder environment is repetitively brisk. The newest feature is a built in RAM, able to store up to 20 disc titles. I am not fully sure of how this works but it seems to be a good idea. If you are seriously thinking of buying a minidisc player go for this one. It will set you back a little more than other companies but as Sony developed the technology first they are obviously ahead in the field and this recorder proves it!
