... about the aesthetics of the unit, and onto the actually functioning of it. The buttons are nicely set out on the unit and the remote and it is easy to play a disc, skip track etc... The unit is a recorder, and is supplied with an optical cable. You simply plug the cable into the recorder and a hi-fi and press record. The recorder will then put a whole cd onto a single minidisc, and there is usually space for two albums on an 80-minute minidisc. Using the optical cable, the sound quality easily equals that of cd, an...more

Premium Review Sony MD Walkman MZ-R91: The MZ-R91 - Older, and Wiser! (675 words)
by - written on 09/08/03 (Very useful, 394 readings)

I have been a fan of portable audio for as long as I can remember, and now long gone are the days I would walk around with my personal cassette player in my pocket. When I discovered minidisc I was over the moon. A medium which has both excellent sound quality and a very small size. I saw it as a new way to enjoy music on the move, and its skip-free! I recently upgraded from an older model to the MZ-R91. I know that it is now an older model itself but it still looked the part, which is what attracted me to it. The recorder has a metallic blue finish with an oval LCD display in the centre, and is about the size of a minidisc but a little thicker. The inline ...  Read the complete review

The ultimate MD player (499 words)

When my cd player decided to go all broke, I knew I had to find a replacment, but I was puzzled. Do I go for good old cd, or do I go a step up, and go for mini disk. After much pondering (5 minutes) I decided that I would take the plunge and order the most expensive mini disk player I could (quality over quantity people). So it arrived, and I wasn't really sure what to expect from it, this being my first MD player ever. So I opened the box and was greeted by a damn good looking MD player, and oh my god is it small. Only a bit bigger then that actually mini disk, if your used to clunky cd players, this will shock you. Really ncie stylign too, it feels expensive! ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sony MD Walkman MZ-R91: Small.. but too small? (132 words)
by - written on 26/09/01 (Somewhat useful, 79 readings)

Its incredible what we can make these days. This mididisc player is truely tiny. Just a little bigger than a mididisc itself, you have to fight yourself not to take out the tiny little screws to see just how it all fits together. Once your over the stage of amazement, and then decided its about time you actually turned the little angel on, your almost convinced the sound will be tiny. But no, this is a sony baby we're talking about. The sound quality is supurb. I brought my device for £175 from Richer Sounds when it was on special... you just cant beat it! Get one, get two - because the only downside - if you let it out of your sight its ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review MZR-91... outdated but not forgotten (887 words)
by - written on 17/07/01 (Very useful, 1435 readings)

I never used walkmans much mainly because of their sizes, battery power, and having to forward through songs you didn't like. Oh, plus the fact that I don't actually own a good tape deck to record with... so this was very much a perfect surprise gift from my brother for me. Pro's over Tape Walkmans (new things to me) This has to beat tapes anyday. My first MD recording... I was lost as to what to record. The MZR91 was so versatile that it has a line input to record analogue or digital optically through the same port. Neat I thought, plugging it into the optical output of my CD player and then my soundcard (to record my MP3s). Next I found the ...  Read the complete review
