If youre looking for a snazzy looking, but rather cheap MP3 Player, and dont care too much about having your entire albium collection on a portable device, then buy the Acoustic Solutions MP3 Player.
Its quite small in size and therefore highly portable, and comes with a neckland hook so you can hang it around your neck, although I wouldnt recommend doing this. Unfortunately, this leaves you with the option of having to put it in your pocket, and with no lock on the buttons you can quickly find yourself skipping tracks or it turning itself off.
Its a plug-in and play device, which is very useful if youre downloading music in a rush.
Its main disadvantage is that it automatically files your tracks alphabetically, and unlike many other MP3s, does not remember what the last track you listened to was when you turn it off. Therefore everytime you turn the thing off, you'll have to trudge through all your tracks again.
It takes 1 AAA battery, which I have found can last a few hours of non-stop playing at a high volume quite well.
I'd recommend this if you want cheap with no frills, but not for someone more serious about music on the move.
As the other review says, if you want a cheap mp3 player that comes in cool colours, get one. If you want an mp3 player that actually works, and has the features you might want, don't bother.
I have the 2gb version of this, but the unit looks and works exactly the same. I think you can get a 4gb version too, which is no doubt just as bad.
I have used a lot of mp3 players, some good, some bad. For this one, I was looking for a very basic mp3 player that I could play my latest downloads on, and also store other files on. On the plus side, it was cheap. I got mine for £20. It's plug and play - simply drag and drop mp3s to be able to listen to them. It is USB powered when plugged in, meaning you can keep it permanently plugged into your PC. The AAA battery does last for a good while on the move. However, even though it claims to be USB2.0, it is pitifully slow to transfer tracks to. If you transfer large mp3s like podcasts, you might as well go and make a cup of tea while you wait.
But it is in the actual playing of mp3s where this fails so miserably. If you have 70 tunes on it, it will list them in alphabetical order (it does not allow you to browse by folder like a Creative Zen Nano does). And it doesn't remember where you left off. So, if you were listening to Radiohead when you turned it off, you'll start back at A, and you have to scroll through 50 odd songs to get back to Radiohead. As the software on board is so slow, this takes about 3 minutes to do! - you literally have to load one song after the next to scan through them.
The volume level of the player does not have adjustment points. If you listen to it in a quiet room, for example, even number 1 on the volume scale is to loud, and turning it down means it mutes it! Oh, and the headphones that come with it (as expected) are awful. Get some better ones.
The icing on the cake was this morning, when it crashed when trying to access a large mp3 (it does crash quite regularly for me). I had to take the battery out to reset it. When I turned it back on again, it had cleared about 95% of the songs stored on it - most were not backed up so are lost forever. This should never be allowed to happen and is a major worry.
I'd say if you're new to mp3 and want an introduction, or as a child's mp3 novelty, this is fine, but for others who listen to music regularly, and also those who transfer large files, then steer clear.
This has all you are looking for in an mp3 player, but at half the price.
