Advantages: satisfactory screen that is fit for purpose, a quick upload time
Disadvantages: awful sound quality, terrible battery stamina, dreadfuly long start-up time
The Aigo E858's square shape gives it a rather distinctive appearance, with a Zen approach to its design. Making it ideal for fans of minimalism.
It comes with a sharp screen measuring at 5.08 cm or 2 inches, this is acceptable to be used to view videos or photos.
When using the supplied headphones, there is a rather repulsive background noise/whistle which is indeed annoying, upon using a hair of high end headphones, there was still a considerable level of disturbance, which would be unacceptable to some people.
In terms of the photo display function, it is of satisfactory quality, it only supports pictures in a JPEG format, which can be then displayed as a slideshow. It also supports a few video formats, such as Xvid, DiVX 5 and MPEG2.
The player is available in white colour, giving it a slight elegant finish. It comes with 2GB of space.
Overall, it is a good player, however it would not be ideal for use during sporting activities, due to its size. In addition, the scroll wheel in the middle is not particularly easy to use. In spite of that, there is precise control from the joystick and the supplied user manual is straight forward and easy to understand.
It is rechargeable, and can be charged through the mains. But it has a terrible battery life, on average a 180 minute charge would provide only 360 minutes when playing audio files.
The player takes an unusually long time to start up which is about 20 seconds on average, from turning the device on to the first track playing.
Summary: product for patient users, that do not require long playback periods
