Everyone knows Apple is leading the way with mp3 players. iPods are, undoubtedly the best mp3 players on the market. They look the best, they're easiest to use and are of really good quality build. There's no arguing that if you're looking for a quality mp3 player, you're going to have to go for Apple.
But that's not to say other brands aren't trying. Zen, for example, have released a huge range of mp3 players which can even rival some of Apple's products.
And then, there are the ones who simply don't try, and just copy. Meet the AMG Touch.
Made to resemble an iPod Touch in both exterior and interior design work, the AMG doesn't really stand up to an iPod. OK, so it's considerably cheaper than one, that is true, and a certain upside. But you get what you pay for here and, although it seems like a great little gadget at first, you'll soon come to realise it simply isn't as good as it might look.
First some features. The touch screen is 2.8 inches, with a resolution of 240 by 320. Aside from the usual abilities to play music, make playlists and sort through artist, album whatever, the AMG boasts to be able to play youtube videos, which it can and is pretty cool. The built in flash player means you can watch all your favourite videos on the go.
It also has a built in camera which is pretty neat, but it's only 2.0 megapixels and the quality of most images taken is either blurry or simply low quality. And with most USB connectivity things these days, it's a simple plug and play-type connection which takes almost no time at all.
So why only three stars? Well, like I said earlier, it's a cheap product and you can certainly feel it. The entire thing feels like it's going to fall apart in your hand and sometimes the touch screen isn't as responsive at it should be, resulting in your trying like hell to get a track to play, or whatever. It gets a bit irritating.
The sound quality is pretty decent, but the headphones it comes with are awful and break instantly. I would recommend buying your own as soon as you get the product.
It has a few cool apps, but nothing a phone these days doesn't have, so it's nothing special and all in all, while the music playing function isn't bad, if you let it play a single playlist, it simply doesn't do much else. You'd be better off getting a iPod Shuffle and then using your phone for everything else.
Even though it mimics the Touch-style look, it just looks cheap, so even if you whip it out to try to impress your friends, it's not going to work.
Excellent value for money. However the features of which are not the same as the apple iPod. The product offers searching music through different methods such as artist, genre, album etc. But once in a specific category the user must then toggle up and down to the desired song. This can be lengthy given the 8BG memory. The product also lacks the feel of the apple iPod as it is extremely light. The product does offer the opportunity to watch the films on, which is a given benefit, but the decreases the battery significantly. The Camera and video is of another additional feature that the product offers. The quality is somewhat compromised by the cost of the unit. Pictures and videos must be taken in a well lit area, as there is no built in flash. Finally the drop and drag use to transfer music is of a particular benefit to those who do not want download software, and begin right away.
Firstly, AMG Touch looks like an Apple's iPod Touch. Look at it and you will see it resembles the touch in everyway. But dont get fooled by thinking that you will get the same features of touch in this chinese device. I brought in AMG Touch 8 gb to give it a shot. lets see if it lives upto the performance of ipod touch too.
The device is PMP (Portable Media player) you can watch movies, listen to music, view pictures, play games...everything that you can do with a pmp can be done with this device.it even has an 2 megapixel camera that is a shame on itself.
Performance wise, the device is a complete loss of money. the device has most of the features and thats where its positive points end. I tested the device with tracks from various genres with my Boss Headphone and Logitech Z5500 5.1 speaker set. As expected the AMG Touch faired out badly in all tests. The sound was horrible, cracking often with lack of bass. Drum beats were like someone beating a piece of steel with a hammer.
next comes video. i loaded the player with 4 clips (.avi, .mpg, .mp4 and a HD video, encoded) the video quality was average. the player sailed smoothly while playing mpeg files but lagged seriously while playing the hd one.
Frustrated, before returning the player i took a couple of pictures.
The picture quality is bad, with a lot of artifacts and errors.
Overall, if you want to show your friends that you have a iPod touch bring this one (but make sure u stand 6 feet away from them)
Any Audiophile or even an average music listener shoud stay away from this product.
As a passionate follower of the great (and mythical) King Ludd I'm by no means at the cutting edge of gadget technology. My wife bought me one of these for my birthday (as a joke, I think!) and I was rather at a loss as to what to do with it. Playing music sprang to mind, but that was about it.
However, after a couple of hours of playing around with it, I have to say that the AMG Touch is great! The best aspect is surely the 'touch screen' feature which does away with all those ridiculously small buttons with which one must normally grapple. The screen is a nice manageable size: not too big to be unwieldy and not too small to cause eye strain. After I got over the initial 'learning curve' of working out how the music and connectivity features worked, I was hooked! Great quality and nice add ons such as the camera.
The only downsides are the price and the battery: the cost would be more of an issue if I'd bought it myself, and the battery should do unless you're going to use it for more than six hours. If you listen to music for longer than that, I'd suggest that you should stop: it can't be good for your hearing.
All in all, I'm a convert! A great product.
AMG mp3 was the one I bought at amazon.co.uk, I bought it in a seller that shipped the item here in the Philippines. I read first all the reviews before I decided to buy the mp3 and upon reading it I know the disadvantages and the good side of the gadget. What really made me decided to bought the item is the touch screen features which is for me is cool, I had mp3's before but all of them are just those typical mp3, with those control buttons on the side. Of course the camera is a big factor too and the youtube player thing is I think one good feature of the product too. Ok I'll just have to discuss the design, and some cool stuff about the product.
Like the description said, the screen is 2.8 inch which is a good screen, not too small not too big just enough for a touch screen mp3. It doesn't have too many control buttons because the whole control is in the screen itself, the only buttons present are the menu button in the middle, at the left is the minus sign and plus sign in the right side. At the back, is the camera, the logo of AMG and the memory inside the item, the power on/off, earphone hole and the USB connection hole is at the upper portion while at the bottom is memory card slot.
Some Features and Functions
The MUSIC features
All the music that you downloaded would be stored here, once you touch or push the icon the audio lab will appear. In this lab are the all song list, album list, genre and artist list, when you press/touch the all song list the songs will appear and then choose the song you want to play. You can save your song to my favorite if you have a song that you really love to listen to, and you can save the song on "save to power on" to automatically play the song when you turn it on. I don't have the exact song capacity but I think I have more than a hundred songs.
The RADIO features
I'm happy that it can get all the frequency of all radio station here, I was really having doubts about it. Once you have found a radio frequency you can save it so that it would be easy for you to listen to it.
The CAMERA features
This is the fun part, pictures are clear and very easy to use. You can just add the pictures stored in your pc and you can also save it on "save to power on", this will make your picture automatically appear once you turn it on. Once you took a picture it will be saved on photos, you can delete and do a slide show of the pictures. About the video, I'm having some problem with it and I'm still trying to feature it out, beside I had this for only a month now.
The YOUTUBE features
This is awesome, I'm not aware of this at first, but when I read on reviews that you can put a youtube video here I got intrigued. When I got to learn all the things about the gadget I started to put youtube videos, here's the thing you have to get the mp3 converter to transfer the videos. By the way, I have to email the seller to send me the converter, and it was easy to install and easy to use. Once you downloaded the videos just convert and drag and drop it on the mp3. I don't know how many videos can be stored but now I have 7 youtube videos.
The manual is not included in the package it has to be downloaded on the AMG site, but since the site close down I ask the seller to send me the manual and all the stuff needed for the gadget. And this is one big disadvantage for those who is not into gadgets because it would be hard for them to figure it out. As for me I really have to learn all the things about it all by myself, and I have a hard time turning it on because I don't really know how to use it, and luckily I find it in a nasty or shall I say crazy way...LOL As the start I was challenge on finding ways but when I got frustrated I started to get pissed off to AMG and the seller.
POOR BATTERY (POSSIBLE)
At first this is one problem for me, it will only last for I think less than 90 minutes or 1 ½ hours but when I got to adjust the settings I can actually use it for I think 4 hours and it's less than the time written on the details (it is written that it can last for 6 hours of continuous music and 4 hours for videos). Also I don't know if the charger or the battery itself is the problem but I have a hard time featuring out if it is already full or not because the charger light indicates its full but the mp3 indicates that it is still charging, so the ending, I have to charge it for 8 hours, 4 hours more than the usual.
Don't expect that this is like the ipod touch screen, which really means "TOUCH SCREEN". It is not like that, it just about pressing the screen.
It is important to read first the reviews written by those people who already used it, so that you will know what to expect about the product. Regarding with this I really read all the reviews and I knew that there is no manual included and I knew some bad side of the product. Also it pays to be someone who wants to discover and learn all by ourselves, you know, figure out things without the help of others. This will make you familiar with the product and you can make all the adjustment that will fit you, trust me you have to be patience regarding this gadget. The most important thing is, you have to learn the setting feature, and don't be afraid to press/touch the things here and use your brain/common sense.
Right now the gadget plays really good, I enjoy it. About the battery life, I can say I'm satisfied now because I don't used it 10 hours a day, if only I'm traveling and when I can't sleep at night. I don't write any advantages because as for me the whole gadget is the best part of it, I'm just enjoying it and I don't think of quality too much because the more you expect the more you will get frustrated if things won't work the way you wanted. And after the "beginners learning process" of the gadget it is now working good. Sometimes its not just about quality its how you use it and how you take care of it.
