Advantages: 20000 songs, videos, pictures.
Disadvantages: the search controls for finding the 1 cd out of the 1000 you can carry,
I got this for Christmas. I have to admit, I do love the iPod, the design, the looks, the size is fantastic. The choices of models and the software thats used on the PC to link it together amazing.
I use iTunes software, and I must admit I think it one of the best music management software packages out there, and I will review it at somepoint soon.
The iPod itself is a nice sleek Black deisng which makes it look stylish (white is nice, but just so the norm) It has 80GB capacity, which is plenty of storage for 20000 songs which is over 1000 cd's.
The back is a shiny metalic silver/steel, however this does give 1 problem of scratches, smudges, finger prints, etc all over the back of the iPod, which is naturally where you hold it.
There is a hold switch on the top of the iPod that allows you to make sure that if you press any buttons on the iPod nothing will happen, afterall you don;t want it in your pocket or in a case, randomly changeing track/album etc unless of cause you set it to shuffle.
The only two other connectors are the 3.5mm Stereo jack socket for headphones/speakers and the iPod Connector for charging and USB control.
The control over the iPod is done with 5 buttons. You have the central selection button which allows you to choose the option from the colour screen.
On this iPod we can play music, photos and videos. All of these are synced to the iPod through iTunes.
To access the music you then have a choice of pre-defined playlists (to be honest this is the best method, use a play list to identify what music you want to listen to in certain environments). This is because unfortunately you can either browse by artists, which means compilations will be completely seperated, etc, or by Album which means you need to know the album title and when you have 10 "Greatest Hits" you have to go into each in order to be able to see which Artist they are the greatest hits of.
You can also view your music via Genre which means you can play soundtracks, rock music, etc.
This iPod is pretty good, although the new version, the Classic is slight more advanced with better features with coverflow, etc.
I use my iPod in my Vauxhall Insignia as it has an iPod connector and on screen control, which means I can control the iPod from the car dashboard.
Overall this is a great iPod, obviously the replacement is the classic, which too is a great iPod (a bit thinner). This range is well worth getting if you want to carry a good selection of music with you. For instance when I am in my car I have 1000 CD's of music with my in my arm rest to choose from, the same on holiday and its a small rectangular box about the size of a 2.5" hard drive. Plus I can also take movies with me on it to watch too (About 300MB in size for a 2 hour movie on iPod)
Fantastic! The only thing I wish was better was the control, or a view where i could see Album and Artist at the same time just like i view it in iTunes.
Summary: This is one to consider if you don;t want the newer classic
