If you can't beat 'em... (Apple iPod classic 120 GB)

Advantages: Every mp accessory is designed with iPods in mind, huge memory for the price

Disadvantages: Converting music and films to the right format is a pain

This is the first iPod I've ever owned, which I bought to replace my very trusty 30GB Creative Zen (which died on me rather suddenly!).

I always swore that I wouldn't give in to the Apple monopoly - but I have to be honest, although I do find iTunes a pain at times (especially when having to convert my many years of mp3s into mp4s..grr..) there is nothing else on the market that can give you even close to this capacity for the same price range.

I chose the iPod Classic rather than the Touch because I don't care how flashy or shiny something is; what I wanted was a music and video player, and this fits on just about everything I own!

The screen is quite small, but fine for watching a film on (although the screen isn't quite big enough for multiple viewers!), the sound quality is quite fair on the headphones it comes with, and I've managed to drop it from about 6-feet without causing a scratch - though I wouldn't recommend testing this on purpose!

Plus, when I go to buy a docking system/in car adapter etc etc it will be MUCH easier to get something reasonable now I own an iPod rather than any other player.

Summary: Fantastic upgrade if you've always owned one, great place to start if you're new.
