Advantages: Mega Memory! Album Covers

Disadvantages: Pricey, Didn't like the ITunes software

I finally caved in & bought an IPod.

I've never been anti-IPod but never thought I would need one as I'd been using my phone as my mp3 player. With a 1GB memory card in the phone I thought that would be enough. It was for a while but eventually I found myself listening to the same songs over and over & having to choose what to take off to put more on.

I collegue of mine had an IPod and an FM transmitter. I really liked the idea & when I found out about the 160gb IPod Classic decided to take the plunge. I haven't bought the transmitter - deciding to buy some speakers instead.

EASE OF USE

The IPod menus are easy to navigate, the wheel takes a little getting used to but easily handled. The features seem a bit plain but I love the album covers - it's one of the redeeming features to counter the plainess. The covers make it easier to find an album.

PRICE

Yes, it is pretty pricey, but the "latest" thing always is. I had a short dilemma with the Classic & the ITouch but the ITouch memory is just not big enough yet, so the Classic won.

ACCESSORIES

Not many accessories - just a data cable & plastic IPod trays.
The manual included with the unit had basics but not very in depth. I'm a person who likes manuals but did without it.

SOFTWARE

I absolutely do not like ITunes at all. I do not like the fact that you can't just drag & drop your music straight onto the device. This frustrated me & made me rethink my purchase. Thankfully I found a non-ITunes program which thankfully works extremely well (Media Monkey). I make all my playlists in that program.

To make your menu's clean you need to make sure that all of your mp3's have the correct album titles & spellings, genres etc. This was a feat but made easier by Media Monkey.

I have since read that the ITunes made for PC is not that great, but is much better & easier to use on the MAC.

MEMORY

The 160GB capacity is a wonderful luxury. I've put almost all of my music & audio books on the IPod & still have about 90GB left.

SIZE

The size is a bit bigger than I'd like but when you think about it, it's pretty much a little hard drive so I can't really complain.

VERDICT

All in all, I'm enjoying the IPod - and enjoying the fact that I don't have to "choose" &/or "sacrifice" music. Just throw EVERYTHING on there and listen to whatever you feel like at the time.

Summary: Just throw EVERYTHING you have on the 160GB Classic!

Hi Shaaza, same here - I've never been a fan but there's nothing that comes close. To be truthful had there been another brand that had 160GB or more I'd probably have chosen that, but there wasn't, though it is handy having an IPod since there are so many accessories & things that are made only with the IPod in mind.
