Advantages: HUGE memory, easy to use.
Disadvantages: No sensitivity adjustment. Cannot transfer music off without iTunes.
I bought this iPod back in September, and had only previously owned a 2GB 2nd generation iPod nano, which I found was too smaller memory for my music collection.
I originally went for the iPod classic due to being recommended it by my sister, and eventually bit the bullet and bought it for £189 at ASDA.
I am so glad I bought it as I am very happy with the product, there is more than enough memory for me to store all of my music, and also lots of TV programmes and films!
I think the layout is very simple to use, and the battery life is acceptable. Although it does drain alot quicker when playing games, and when watching TV programmes or films.
With the use of itunes, I find that it is very simple to transfer music and television.
I like the way that you can customise the menu's available to you on the iPod Classic, it is so easy to do to! I think that this makes the iPod more personal to the person who is using it. If you don't use the 'Podcast' feature, you can literally hide it, as simple as that. I have hidden quite a few features on my menu as alot of the features available to me on the iPod are just not relevant for my use! Atleast they are there if I do ever become interested! It's nice to have the choice!
There are some downfalls that I have found, and that is the fact there is no way to choose the sensitivity of the 'wheel'. Also, you cannot transfer the music back off the iPod one it is already stored, however there is a way to do this, and that is without the use of itunes, and instead using WinAmp.
I find though that the 'Shuffle feature' of the iPod can lead to disappointment. If I chose one song from the list, then went back again 15songs later and chose to listen to that song again, the next 15 songs would be the ones I have already listened to. So it's a shuffle once feature, and not constantly shuffling, like it does on iTunes.
I find also that the silver back of the iPod does scratch very easily! I don't see why people would spend the extra money engraving it, yes it adds a personal touch, but after a few months, the scratches all over the back made it look quite ugly!
My old Nano used to be able to have such a loud sound from the songs, which sometimes I enjoyed, like at the gym when all I could hear was the machines, and the music playing there. I have found that Apple have reduced the sound limit, which I know is down to health and safety, but it can get very annoying hearing two different songs when you're only wanting to listen to your own music!
I never leave the house without my iPod, and I think it is such a good boredom breaker!!!
Overall, I would definitely recommend the iPod classic, and would definitely choose it over and over again.
Summary: Very good value for money, would recommend.
