Advantages: Very good for what it's designed for, stylish, good battery life

Disadvantages: Scratches easily, noticeable delays in browsing

Having received the 80gb iPod Classic as a Christmas present I was a bit dubioius as to whether to return it or not as my iPod Photo still worked perfectly well! (The iPod photo is a fourth generation iPod with photo capability but without the ability to play video)

Any doubts I had about the iPod Classic not living up to my expectations were quelled instantly.

It is both lighter and thinner than my 30gb iPod Photo. The screen is very big at 2.5" This provides ample space to view videos while on a plane or on a long train journey. The screen is bright as well, meaning you can see details on the screen even in sunlight.

The case is built solidly and the thumbwheel is in just the right place to enable easy scrolling through your songs. The back is extremely shiny, however will scratch very easily. Although the front is made from plastic, it is very strong, but can dent! The screen, like the back will scratch very easily as well so a case is a must.

It is very quick to transfer songs to the iPod, I managed to put on 70gb of music in around 20 minutes.

One function which wasn't present on the iPod photo is the ability to search by typing in a name or genre etc. This is very useful as my music collection is quiute large! And you can't always remember what something's labelled under!

The audio quality is not bad. It's quite good in fact, however, the headphones supplied, although suitable for songs where there is a lot of treble, are truly apalling for anything with bass in.

Navigation is easy, although a bit slow to load some screens sometimes, with a noticeable delay of about a second or so while opening the music library.

Although there are a few bad points overall this is a brilliant piece of kit.

Summary: Very good at what it does, however is let down in some areas such as the easily scratched fascia.
