Advantages: Huge memory capacity, easy integration with software and purchasing
Disadvantages: It's a disappointment when the glossy finish loses its lustre.
I've had my iPod classic for years now and I still love it as much as when I first bought it. I bought mine for around £170 from Amazon, which was excellent value for money.
I am amazed at how durable and reliable it has been, and with this amount of memory, it is something you can keep and use forever - I've added every single one of my hundereds of CDs and countless iTunes purchases, and I've still got two thirds of the memory free. In fact, the memory is so large I also use it to transport, back-up and store other files.
I purchased a dictaphone plug-in (from another manufacturer) so I can also use it to record and take memos, giving it extra functionality - it's worth researching what accessories and ad-ons are available so you can get the most possible use out of it.
The iPod is lightweight and easy to handle - I especially like the grip in the stereo jack that keeps headphones attached, meaning that if you drop it, it'll be left dangling from your ears, instead of hitting the ground! However, I did find the click wheel difficult to use at first, and the erratic cataloging of music takes some getting used to (mine can't decide whether to file artists called 'the' under 't' or under the first letter of the band name, and switches between placing numbers at the start and end of the alphabetised list). I would also recommend investing in a case or using the plush cover supplied regularly, otherwise the glossy plastic will scratch and dim.
I am not someone who usually uses Apple products (I'm a PC user) but I still have to conceed that this is one of the best electronic devices I've ever owned and its indispendible to me. Even though several new models of iPod and apple-brand portable devices have come to the market since I bought my iPod classic, I've never been tempted to upgrade - I'll be using it for as long as it lasts.
Summary: Highly recommended.
