Advantages: small, light, bright screen, long lasting battery

Disadvantages: doesnt hold many songs, doesnt play videos

I havent even owned this for a year and I've already upgraded to a 30GB Video. Having complained that my old iPod mini wasn't working, some well-meaning friends bought me this not realising that I wouldnt be able to fit more songs on it. I managed to get around 750 songs on it, and my collection of music is way bigger than that.
If you are thinking of getting a nano, go one up and get an 8GB, it will last you longer as your music collection expands.
On the plus side, it was easy to run with (I bought the armband thing), the screen was really nice and bright but it's a pity that it doesnt play video (although, mind you, with this memory you could probably only fit one or two on here). I like being able to store my pictures on it, quite a useful feature.
I can never get used to how tiny the clickwheel is, and I've lost the nano a few times because of it's size, but it is quite handy being able to fit it in my pocket without it bulging too much. The battery lasts really long which is great because I always forget to charge it.

Summary: Overall, if you are just looking for something to play your songs on the train then this is for you
