Advantages: Small, Light, Easy to Use, Fashionable, Durable, Lovely
Disadvantages: Expensive, Not massively different from rival MP3 players
I am a great fan of the iPod range. Out of all MP3 players and such, iPod's have really captured a huge amount of the market... and for good reason.
Their usability is brilliant; their interface is simple, quick to learn and very smooth and slick. One can pick up a Nano, look at it for a few seconds, and be able to recognise all the functions and how to use them. The circle scroller in the centre of the iPod is trademark to older iPod's, and anyone you ask will know the iPod by that scroller.
The look, even though it is only 2nd generation, is very modern-esque and fits in with any decor (be it on your person), so as a fashion item, it works well with anything. The design of the interface itself fits in nicely with usability aswell; it has simple colours, simple lines and simple little arrows to guide you. The 2nd gen. model was stuck to only a few colours, but nevertheless, they worked marvelously.
Durability. Something I never thought this piece of kit would have. I've had my iPod Nano for 2 years now: it has accumulated scratches, it's been dropped, sat on and thrown about, but it runs as well as it did the day I got it (albeit more banged up). There are no protruding buttons to be broken off, no knobs or dangley things. Just flat, small and strong.
The sound quality produced by the bog-standard headphones (that are contained in the box from purchase) are brilliant... if you don't need in-earphone (like me :D). They are forever falling out of my ears... so I switched to in-ear.....anyway! back onto the iPod :D
The iPod is a wonderful little piece of kit, and together with iTunes, make a perfect music-lovers haven. iTunes compresses songs, so the 2GB Nano (that I have) will fit around 500 songs... 500! That's a lot of songs.
If you're one of those people that require 160GB of space, simply because your iTunes tells you you have that much music... don't buy this. But if you're after a nice little handy MP3 player, and are a fan of the Apple iPod, this one is the way to go.
Summary: it is excellent
