Advantages: Everything. Its the smoothest mp3 player I ever used!
Disadvantages: None really
I was given the Ipod Nano 3rd Generation for Christmas and I believe it cost about £99 from HMV.
It's a really smart piece of kit, its elegant and the silver colour is pretty classy.
Packaging:
It comes in a box just big enough to fit the Ipod, the earphones and the USB cable to connect it to your computer. If I had the Ipod in its box it would still fit in my pocket! Its pretty sturdy too, so your Ipod is very unlikely to get damaged on the journey from the shop to your house :) Also in the box is a quick start guide which means that there is no trouble starting it up.
Features:
It comes in 5 different metallic covers, and has a 2 inch wide screen for viewing photos and movies on. According to Apple it has the most pixels per inch of any ipod so far. Although I've never had another Ipod, I can believe that as the screen in incredibly clear. The battery last a long time, 24 hours of listening to music or 5 hours of watching a movie can be had. If you're after a player that will store a few hundred songs and a couple of movies for when you are out and about this is perfect (holds about 1000 tracks, 4 movies or 3500 photos), but if you are after something that will hold your entire music collection, I'd suggest not getting a Nano, and going for an Ipod Video (up to 60GB).
One of the really good features is the cover flow. It allows you to flick through all of the album artwork to find an album that you want to listen to. It certainly beats reading your way through lists of album titles (although it does allow you to do this also).
Other features include games (it comes with three), audio books (which you can buy from Itunes), a calendar, a clock and built in stop watch.
Quality:
Its certainly never failed me! Its worked perfectly ever since I got it. The sound quality is better than my previous mp3 player (Creative Zen) and the sound turns up loud enough. If you do like to listen to your music very loudly, then you can purchase a set of earphones with an additional volume control pretty cheaply.
Itunes:
Some people complain that its not fair that you have to buy your music from Itunes to use this player. This just isn't true. You can buy music from anywhere; just make sure that it's in mp3 format. You do however, need to use the Itunes media player on your computer in order to transfer over music and videos. Personally I think this is pretty cool as it allows it to synchronise with your computer and upload certain items (ie, podcasts, tv shows) automatically when you plug you Ipod in. Itunes store is also pretty cool as you can download loads of stuff for free. There are loads of cool podcasts (national geographic documentaries, comedy shows, news programs etc) that are all free and some tv shows too.
Overall I think it's a great piece of machinery, and I wouldn't buy anything else.
Summary: Everything works just the way it should
