Advantages: lots of memory space, easy to use
Disadvantages: quite expensive, some design faults
I have always wanted an Apple Ipod, ever since they first arrived on the UK market I have coveted one of my own, but I found it hard justifying such a high price for a music player when there are others around for so much cheaper.
Earlier this year, I finally gave in and treated myself to a third generation ipod nano. I was so excited, took it home, got it out of the box and realised one thing immediately - the lead supplied with it only lets you charge it through the USB port on your computer. Which would be fine if you had it plugged in while you synced it to itunes anyway, but would be annoying if you didnt actually need to go on the computer. But this was easily solved by buying a mains adapter plug for it.
I also find itunes a bit annoying, maybe because I dont use it much but it doesnt seem to be that intuitive. I can see why Apple want you to use itunes - apart from the obvious commercial side of it, it would also be easier to manage huge collections of music on your ipod throug the itunes interface. But with a nano, I sometimes think the option of just dragging and dropping between folders like you do with cheaper mp3 players would be more convenient.
My only other (!) complaint about the ipod nano is that I have trouble controlling the click wheel control, sometimes i cant get it to scroll through the menu and then it will suddenly jump half way down the list. It is so frustrating! I dont know if this is just me, or whether my ipod has a fault, but it has left me feeling really disappointed with the "toy" that I had wanted for so long!
But I like all the features the ipod nano has, such as the facility to browse through album covers, set up play lists etc. It also has a very long battery life from one charge.
Summary: A great little gadget that fits in your pocket where there is a space from the money you shelled out
