      A great piece of technology which is great value. It is great for listening to your music.

      The iPod Nano 5G 8GB is owned by many. People that buy have their own opinion on it, whether they like it or not. To be totally honest, I love it. Every iPod I buy, which is nearly all of them, I expect a high standard and high quality. That is exactly what is produced. 'Absolutely fantastic' is genuinely my first reaction to every iPod I purchase. It can store up to 2000 songs which is very good and this includes music, images, videos and pod casts. It also has a camera which is of very high quality. This is very good, because it is very easy to upload via iPod Wire (USB Cable) straight to your Laptop/PC where you can easily transfer the things you want straight from your PC to your iPod. It is very good for when you are on the go, because it is lightweight and compact. It is also very thin which is a huge advantage because it is easy to fit in pockets. The design is always the same with iPod Nano's which is great because it is well created and well structured. In addition, there are also a wide range of colours available to purchase in. For example, red, yellow, green, blue, black, white, silver, grey, pink, purple.
      The 16GB is just as amazing, with double the storage space.

      Could we see something different for next time?
      Maybe a different design or a new, inventive, mind blowing feature?

      All round good buy

      Good things come in small packages. I have owned the ipod nano 5th gen for over a year now, and my only regret buying it was that i didn't get the 16gb model. For me, it is the ideal mp3 player. First of all, it is a very good looking product, with an updated, more sleek design from the old model, including a larger screen. I bought the nano because i do not like to have big bulges in my pockets, and was satisfied with regard to this aspect straight away. It is extremely slim and lightweight. Next, the menu is easy to navigate, and offers various different ways to navigate through your music, which i find useful. Also, their is a second "album" shuffle option, which i have not seen on other mp3 players, which, again, i find very useful. The sound quality is superb when listening on headphones, but i have found that when plugged in to speakers can seem quite quiet. As mentioned earlier, this model has a larger screen size than the previous one, which makes viewing photos and videos that little bit more easy on the eyes. So, in conclusion, i would definitely recommend the ipod nano 5th gen based on my experience using it.

      Fab!

      I never really bothered with an MP3 player or Ipod as I don't usually walk anywhere alone so didn't see much point in buying one but once my daughter started nursery I thought it would be nice to have something for the walk home. My brother gave me his old Ipod but it was really on its last legs but I did like it so I was on the lookout for a new one. My friends told me that her sister was selling an Ipod Nano for £30 so I snapped it up straightaway!

      The Ipod Nano I bought is a really stylish model which really doesn't mean all that much to me, as long as it plays music I am happy and wasn't really bothered about a particular type. It is a small thin gadget which is approximately 4 inches long so its definately not an intrusive size and can be carried easily. On the front of the Ipod there is a rectangular screen which takes up around half of the front. Underneath the screen you will find the function button which is a circular button which is used to work the Ipod. The outer circle of the button has the menu, skip and play/pause so it covers everything you need. The play/pause button is also the on/off switch. The middle of the circle is like an "enter" button which you can press when choosing options in the menu. The Ipod is really lightweight and it almost feels as though you are carrying nothing!

      When turning on the Ipod you are taken straight to the menu which gives you various options:

      Music: When clicking on the music option you will see a list of further options such as playlists, artists, songs and genres. This means you can easily scroll through the Ipod for a particular song or artist. I often search for certain artists and then I can just listen to their songs all together.

      Videos: I have never personally used this function but you can download tv or movies to the Ipod and watch them when you are on the go. It doesn't interest me to do this as I think it would drive me batty watching something on such a tiny screen.

      Photo's: Using Itunes you can put photo's onto your Ipod if you so wish, I haven't done this either!

      Podcasts: You can download or save podcasts with this function.

      Extras: Under this function in the menu you can find an alarm clock, calendar, clock, contacts, games, notes, screen lock and stopwatch should you need to use any. I personally don't use any of them as I tend to use my mobile for all of them.

      Settings: Shuffle, repeat, playback, date and time and language are all in this function for you to set up your Ipod.

      Shuffle songs: Literally shuffles all the songs on the Ipod. I use this function every time I use the Ipod as I like a real mix of songs

      At the top of the ipod you will find a small button which locks it so when it isn't in use you can lock it to prevent it from being switched on when in your bag or pocket and draining the battery which has happened to me on numerous occasions - I now always lock it!

      Using the Ipod for the first time requires access to iTunes so you can download all the music from your computer. I have all my cd's in iTunes now so it was simple to transfer them onto the Ipod. Simply plug the USB cable from the Ipod into the computer and iTunes will automatically sync the music over. Each time you plug the ipod in to charge up iTunes will sync again so you are always ensuring that it is up to date. I am not technically minded at all so I was a little worried about having like this but it is so simple to use and it is very straight forward to set up and use. I admit I don't use the ipod to its full ability but I merely wanted something to listen to music on and this does that job perfectly.

      The ipod has 8gb memory and I currently have just over 1000 songs on so there is still plenty of room for more songs though I know if I had films on that would take up much more memory. There were no earphones with the ipod when I purchased it so I did need to buy some and I initially presumed they had to be Apple earphones though I am pleased to say that actually any work though I found cheaper ones affected the sound quality somewhat. I would have liked the ipod to play music without the earphones in like my friends does so when i'm at work and its quiet I could have played music without being seen to have headphones in!

      I am really impressed with the Ipod Nano, the sound quality is fantastic, it is easy to use and it was an absolute bargain. It is so easy to use that my three year old can work it alone, obviously she can't read the words but she can easily skip through the songs to find one she likes.

      There are obviously newer and better models now available on the market but you can find this ipod on Ebay for around £89.99. I am thrilled that I was able to get my ipod for such a bargain, and use it a lot more than I thought I would, especially now I can plug it into the car and listen to it instead of cd's or the radio.

      Thank you for reading my review.

        Good product, highly recommended

        I got this as present. I can not really fault the product. It is extremely easy to use, the sound quality is fantastic and the visual quality is also great.

        Storage space is brilliant and I am no where near the maximum capacity. The video camera is good and also gives very high quality images. It would be much better however if it could be used as a still camera as well as a video camera.

        There are some great games on this too. There is one called vortex which I am addicted to. The ipod also features a radio which gives good quality but does tend to run the battery down very quickly. It also includes other features such as a pedometer.

        The ipod itself is very sleek and light. The screen is very large so watching videos, playing games and flicking through music is easy to do.

        A highly recommended product.

        Disadvantages

        For all ages.

        I got this Ipod as a present last christmas and was most pleased with it. The 8GB of memory is a very substansial amount to store your music on and there is even space to store films or photographs if you wish.
        As I am a keen runner this Ipod was perfect for me, with it's "shake" function which allows you to shake the Ipod in order for the track to change instead of fussing around finding the buttons. There are a wide range of colours available. Currently I have a blue Ipod which I find beautiful. All Apple Ipods have a "metalic" depth to their colours which makes them seem all the more appealing. The layout of the screen is the same format as previous models where you flick along the album covers or browse the songs, playlists or artists manually.
        The screen seems to be brighter than previous models and the picture is of a higher definition, therefore emphasising the album artwork.
        The battery life is around 7 hours, depending whether videos are watched on the Ipod but it is a convienent time span regardless of what you are doing. It is also very easy to put music on and off your Ipod by the use of a USB cable which is provided which you connect to your computer and naviagate through the media of Itunes.

        Reliable mp3 player

        I was perhaps a bit behind the times and this was the first Apple product i ever bought about a year ago. The device itself is great and very easy to use, although you obviously don't get the same features as an iPod Touch. It's not so small it gets lost but is very light and comes in a good range of colours. The battery life is better than I expected - I switch is off an on throughout the day when walking to work or going to the gym and generally only charge it about once per week. The sound quality is very good.

        The only problem I find with Apple is iTunes - although the devices themselves are really easy to use, I don't find iTunes that straightforward compared with other programmes. It also needs to be kept up to date otherwise there can be problems connecting the iPod to it.

        I'd recommend the Nano if you only want an mp3 player for listening to music (there is much more to an iPod Touch), however it does its job really well and is very simple to use.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Good basic MP3 player

        I have a Black Nano which was given to me as a Christmas present about 18 months ago and its had some pretty heavy usage. At least two hours everyday on my commute to work. Not to mention car journeys, I have an adaptor so it can be connected to my car stereo. The only problem I have ever had with it and potentially embarrassing was one morning on the packed commuter train it decided to suddenly switch to loudspeaker. The only way I could get it to revert back to playing through the headphones was by plugging it into my laptop when I got home. It updated for ages and then worked perfectly again.

        When it comes to replacing my Nano, I will definitely get one with more storage space. Eight GB doesn't hold my iTunes library and I'm not good with making decisions especially when it comes to what to include and what not to. There is the option to add photo's but as I say it can't hold all of the music I have so I don't want to waste precious space with photos.

        The headphones were rubbish and have long since gone in the bin but I think that's standard for Apple headphones that come with an mp3 player. I doubt very much you are buying it for those anyway.

        I find it needs charging about once a week but considering I get about 12hours use from it, I don't think that's too bad. I haven't noticed that the battery life has decreased in the time I've owned it and it charges pretty quickly. That said I only use it to play music, on the rare occasions I've played one of the games on it - it seems to drain the battery.

        Cosmetically, it looks good to me and even with being thrown about in my handbag everyday, it still looks good. It's small, but not flimsy and I don't worry that it would break if I dropped it. Although I do have a plastic case for it which has protected it from any potential scratches.

        I would recommend the Nano but as I say, if I was to replace mine I would probably opt for one with a larger storage space as I feel its worth the extra.

        Apple never go wrong with their iPods!

        I bought this a little while ago after my first iPod had broken. I must say, I've regretted having got this particular model. It's not that I have a problem with iPods, I just realised that I got the wrong one for my own needs. This is something you should properly consider before buying your own.

        I soon realised that if you're a music fanatic - like myself - then 8GB just isn't enough. If I was going to get a Nano again it should have been the 16GB one. Ideally, I'd like more than this even but 16GB is the max memory for Nanos. Then you're onto an iPod classic where the memory capacity is much larger. They're able to hold a whole lifetime supply of your favourite tunes but they're much bigger and heavier than their fellow Nanos - so this is a bit of a downfall. That's why I'm still glad I've got something small, but the limited memory capacity just doesn't cut it for me. Therefore, if you think you've got a lot of music/ you want to use your system for movies/TV shows/games and all the rest, then you may want to consider a 16GB one if it needs to be light in your pocket.

        Really, whichever iPod you choose, they're all great. I know people with all kinds; from the iPod shuffle to the iPhone, you can't go wrong. My granparents recently got a 16GB nano as a gift and it's going down very well with them! I know I couldn't live without my Nano; it comes with me everywhere; anyone who knows me knows I'm never without it, making it possibly my best purchase to date.

        Its looks absolutely top-notch with its metallic finish, giving it a beautiful shine. I simply chose black and this looks great with its metallic quality. I immediately noticed just how light it is compared to all the Nanos before it; it's brilliant - so small and light! I got a set of cases/coverings for it to keep it in good condition since it's so lovely looking and it's still in perfect condition after all these months of it (I'm sure) being chucked about in my bag.

        The sound on this sweet device is good, though you'll really need to replace the standard Apple iPod earphones with something better for the best sound. This model comes with a video camera, pedometer and in-built radio which I've found useful and had plenty of fun with, especially the pedometer - never knew you could have so much fun counting steps. That's all I'll say!

        To summarise, If you want a small music player that looks great and you don't need much memory then this will set you up just nicely.

        Very good product, worth the price and will last for many years

        Being a music lover and liking my gadgets I was very excited when this product came onto the shelves so needless to say i was very happy when i recived one for christmas three years ago. I love the whole concept of music being combined with art and the fact that the two can interact together so you can enjoy and be a little bit qwerky with it as oppose to it being so gadgety and for techno phobes. When recieving the product it was all very simple to use. You just have to install Itunes whihc is very self explanatory and away you go. Its all for quick to install and even though installing Cds can be very time consuming ( depending on your collection). Its definately worth the wait. I own the 8gb ipod which holds up to 1000 songs and even though this may not seem alot you do end up swop and changing your music or files. The ipod comes with radio and video capture so is ideal for being on the go and fits discreetly in your handbag/pocket. Other apps included are games and you cna upload photos and films onto the ipod though i dont really reccomend useing the ipod for films as the screen is incredibly small.

        The ipod comes in a range of fun colours and is very durable. My ipod when fully charged lasts for about 8 hours. Itunes also has a setting where you cna download the album colours for free. It is all very easy to manage and put together. I've had my ipod for three years and it still works and is as good as new. The sound quality is fantastic and while the screen is very small the music quality is excellant. I would definately reccomend this to anyone it doesnt take very long to opperate and even the least confident with technology can understand and use this. The head hones however may not last very long when fist bough. Ive changed my headphones a good few times so its a good idea to shop arround as oppose to buying the ipod headphones at a cost around £30 they arnt good value and dont last very long but ive found using other headphones have amplified the sound and lasted a long time.

        good value - buy!

        Having owned, and subsequently lost, broken or been robbed of many ipods, I can say with some authority that this was my favourite. The 5th Gen nano does abosultely everything you could want; it has a large screen, decent capacity, video playback, clever use of album artwork, genius and, most importantly, the click-wheel!

        After losing this ipod I bought the newest generation nano, which was tiny and had no clickwheel. The functionability and, i believe, aesthetics of this simply did not match to my beloved 5th gen version.

        Undoubtedly, now that there are newer nanos out there, this ipod's price will have gone down significantly. Thus, I say, now is the time to buy!

        The only slight criticism I had of my nano 5th gen was its colour. I ordered online my 'black' nano. In fact it came out as grey, which was fairly frustrating. However, of course, there are many other colours available, therefore, this should not dissuade you from the purchase.

        Of course, if you are a serious musician, a nano is not what you'd want, purely because of capacity. Moreover, storing films is a problem and, frankly watching them on a 'nano', as expected, is not ideal.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Good all round model!

        Introduction:
        The size of this nano may be the same as its predecessor but the simple changes make all the difference.

        Quality:
        The slightly larger screen size allows a crisp look with the strength and clarity of colour that was often lacking before. Whilst this compact nature is ideal for taking movies away on holiday, I did find that after watching two hours, it easily gave you a headache!

        Ease of Use:
        This nano is simple to use - almost identical to the previous generation, the wheel allows an easy use with the lock preventing any unintended change of track. Though a drawback of the nano is this - when unlocked and placed horizontal, the screen changes to allow a skim of the tunes with the given images. This is a good idea which would make it easier in the long run, however it can be irritating if you accidentally lean it to the side whilst choosing tracks in a traditional manner.

        Features:
        The addition of the camera is good in terms of resolution, but it is rather awkwardly positioned on the nano itself - plus with lack of clear instructions, it can be hard to work out on first use. The indication of battery life is a good idea in concept - however, it gives little warning of when it will actually die, whilst it changes colour as expected, these can be altered by merely turning it off and back on, giving no concrete idea of its battery life.

        Sound Quality:
        With the radio giving out the same crisp sound as the headphones, it is fair to say that this version of the nano is a lot better than the others. However, one slight drawback is that of the speaker - whilst it seems to be a good advance and competition for the ipod touch, it is hard to get away from the metal-like sound that it emits. For the best quality, it is better to stay with the headphones.

        Disadvantages

        A strong product that is quite good value for the money when the cost is amortized

        Remember those old iPods which died after a year? Well, it seems Apple has improved the planned obsolescence in our favour. I've packed mine with music and videos, while it has provided me with a reliable, stable device. I do have to watch battery life, but I've only run out twice in the many months I have owned the device.

        The software in the device is relatively easy to use and quite stable, unlike previous incarnations of the iPod I have possessed which would crash or corrupt my music files. Certain features are quite annoying, such as when the software scrolls through albums when I want to change the volume as I am strolling through town. I presume that this "feature" is due to the iPod responding to the device's orientation. This can be useful. If you're watching a video and turn the device around 180 degrees, it can flip the image and compensate. As I seldom watch videos, I personally could do without this oft annoying feature, but I will not penalize it.

        The circular scrolling mechanism otherwise has not failed me. Cheaper MP3 players often break down or cease to function when the scrolling/selection mechanism breaks down. Oh well. Despite being the bargain whore that I am, the Apple iPod is one of the products for which shelling out actually stands out as the "correct" choice. It's a false economy to pay £50 every 6 months for the knock-offs when £130 will do for 18+ months.

        Finally, I want to consider taste. I am a fan of traditional/folk music, so I add songs as I find them, which is to say, slowly. 8 GB of music represents years of collecting (as I also hunt for rare recordings, I consider it collecting). For someone who follows trends, this probably is nothing.

        Highly recommended MP3 player!

        {~~~Introduction~~~}

        I previously had the original iPod Mini and I actually wanted a new iPod but couldn't justify the cost at the time as the Mini was working fine. But I managed to win this iPod in a competition with Alfa Romeo in which participants had to play an online racing game and attempt to achieve a high score. The first prize was a car, but I was quite content with my prize.

        {~~~Packaging~~~}

        I was pleasantly surprised to receive the iPod in a small plastic transparent box with just a cable and small booklet. I loved it but, stylish and simple.

        {~~~First Impression~~~}

        I honestly loved the feel of the iPod and the look. In fact, I still prefer this design to the latest iPod nano.

        {~~~Design~~~}

        The iPod is rectangular with curved edges and a big screen. It is very good looking and there is a lock button on the top. The audio jack is at the bottom. The material does seem quite prone to scratching, but bought a belkin leather case in which the iPod is always held so I have no scratched on it.

        {~~~Setting the iPod up~~~}

        Set-up was simple. I had to download iTunes and connect the iPod to the computer to sync the iTunes and iPod software and all of my music, etc.
        {~~~Functions~~~}

        I'm sure everyone is aware that the primary function of the iPod is to play music, but Apple have also incorporated the function to view videos and photos on the iPod as well as contacts and notes. One thing I quite like is the option to add lyrics to each song.

        However, all of these functions can only be utilised by connecting the iPod to the computer and using itunes, so it is limited in this sense.

        {~~~ User friendliness~~~}

        The interface on the iPod is really quite simple and self-explanatory. I can't see anyone having problems using the iPod

        {~~~Sound Quality~~~}

        The sound quality of this is really quite good in my honest opinion. I haven't got much to compare it to but it goes really loud and the clarity of the sound is good. There are also EQ options available, however these impact the battery life.

        Also, the included headphones aren't great, so I recommend purchasing some new ones. I am currently using a-jays two and am really impressed, they are by far the best headphones I have had.

        {~~~Battery Life~~~}

        The battery life is quite decent. It lasted me about 6 hours when I first received it, but now, a year or so on, it lasts closer to four, which is good enough for me

        {~~~Final thoughts~~~}

        If you are looking to get a compact iPod but don't like Apple's newest iPod Nano, which is more like a shuffle, I would highly recommend this iPod! It is comfy to hold, the screen is big and its just fantastic!

          A nessecity in this day and age

          If you are anything like me, you cannot get through a day without listening to music.
          My husband brought me one of these after listening to me moaning once again about how awful the music in our local shopping centre was - you know the 'this music is so bad we couldn't think of words to fit it' music - and how I was going to start singing while I shop.
          First of, I got the RED version and he had it engraved with a personal message. The colour was and still is a vibrant red which is very hard to lose, even in a house with 2 children under 3 and all their paraphenalia. Plus the engraving is still as clear as it was when I received it.
          It comes with everytihng you need to get started, namely the cable to connect it to your computer and some headphones.
          I would recommend downloading Itunes before connecting your new Ipod to the computer as it can take an age and the last thing you want to do is sit around waiting, plus then you can get your music sorted out ready for your new toy.
          Once you have your music on itunes, all you need to do is connect your ipod to the computer and follow the onscreen instructions. Then hey presto you are ready to sync the music to your ipod. It is literally a matter of either drag and drop what you want to put on your ipod or sync the lot (if it will let you, my music collection is too big unfortunately).
          After you have your music uploaded to your ipod, it is easy to navigate your way throught the self explanatory menus using the clicker wheel on the front. I would recommend going into the settings and turing the click off though, people don't tend to like the noise.
          The sound quality is great, even better through some higher spec headphones and the colour display is vibrant and easy to see.
          I have a selection of music and photos on mine and the photos look amazing on it.

          I would defiantely recommend this to anyone who wants to take their music with them, whether that be to the gym, th eshops, in the car, anywhere really.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Nice audio player, sleek design

          A bit late to the Apple 'hype' I got this iPod last year for my birthday, and have generally really enjoyed owning it. After having it for a few months it had a funny turn when I upgraded my iTunes to v10 and decided it didn't want to work! After a couple of months with trips to see Apple "genius'", unhelpful help from computer people...I somehow managed to get it to work again by myself after reinstalling iTunes v9 a number of times, clearing everything off both the iPod and computer and a lot of stress. This could well be an uncommon problem but it was really annoying after only owning the device for a few months. Since then, I have stuck to iTunes v9 and it has been fine. I have it in the hot pink colour and really enjoy being able to use it once again! It is also handy for the car with its shuffle function, plugging the iPod in and going for a drive really is enjoyable.

          Say you're listening to a song you really like and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. The genius feature finds the songs in your music library that go great together and makes a Genius Playlist for you. It's like having your own highly intelligent, personal DJ.

          Tilt or turn iPod nano on its side, and you'll listen, watch, and play in new ways. You can flip through your album art with cover flow. Or, vertically speaking, see more albums and artists on the screen at one time.

          Pull hundreds of photos from your pocket and share them wherever you go. Hold iPod nano upright and see your photos in portrait view. Turn it on its side to see them in landscape. Your photos look beautiful in their proper aspect ratio on the vibrant, 320-by-240-resolution display.

          It's even easier to find the song you want to hear. Now you can view your album art in cover flow. Or just press and hold the center button to browse by album or artist. When you find the right song, press the center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist.

          Sometimes, people could all use a little unpredictability. And now you can shake to shuffle your music. Just give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You'll always be surprised by what you'll hear.

          Watching movies, TV shows, and videos is big fun on iPod nano. And the high-resolution picture looks crisp and vivid on the 2-inch widescreen display. So you can always have a little video with you.
