Advantages: Easy to use, looks great
Disadvantages: In the past iPods have broken quickly
In my time I have had 3 iPods. Starting with the old 'brick' of an iPod, this model broke down after a couple of years. I replaced it with a more modern iPod, which unfortunately met a watery death after an accident involving a bottle of Evian. Finally, the tiny iPod nano was bought, for just over £100. A reasonable price, and considerably less than I paid for its predecessors.
I had been contemplating not replacing my second iPod when it broke. "How much will I really use it", I asked myself. "I wont miss it", I protested. However, enticed by the bright colours I gave in, and purchased a shiny purple iPod nano.
It came in its own tiny box. Having used many iPods before, it was mere moments before the little device was plugged into my computer and charging away. But even for the iPod virgin, setting up one of these devices couldn't be easier. Even my mother managed to set hers up all by herself!
Once set up I began to load my favorite songs onto it. Like all iPods, the nano's menus are easily organised so you can browse songs by Title, Artist or Album, which means searching for songs whilst on the go is easy.
Despite being a tiny screen, it has the capability of playing videos, and so you can upload a movie to keep you entertained on a long journey, or a TV episode to watch whilst riding the tube. However, if this is one of the features which attracts you to the nano I would suggest looking at the iPod touch, as the screen on the nano really is rather small. For the odd occasion, watching a movie on it is acceptable, if it was a regular occurrence upgrading to the touch might be a wise move.
The battery life on the nano is pretty impressive, although like all batteries it will surely deteriorate with age.
The design of this device is simple and sexy. It looks great, and is so light you hardly notice you are carrying it (unlike the first brick I bought!)
And in answer to my question "How much will I really use it"? The answer is: every day. I carry it with me at all times and it proves a welcome relief from delayed journeys or noisy neighbours. Even if music isn't your thing, you could upload a pod-cast, learn a language or even look at your photos.
This is such an adaptable device, which really is a day to day product. Yes, there might be cheaper alternatives on the market, but for it's style, simplicity and suitability I certainly will be buying another one if it turns out not to be third time luckily.
Summary: Another stylish product from the Apple team
