Advantages: Striking colours, trendy

Disadvantages: iTunes can be very annoying!

I recieved this MP3 player as a birthday gift to take on my travels to Australia and New Zealand. Mine is purple which is a great colour, very attractive and inscripted I believe for free when bought direct from Apple.

Using the Ipod is really easy; the round touch menu is very user friendly and allows you to view your music in categories; by artist, album, song etc. You can also use it to store videos, images and games. The iPod came with a few games that involve a lot of movement (eg physically tipping the iPod to move a ball around a maze) which I find very entertaining on long journeys! The speaker volume goes up nice and loud, and you can buy an adaptor so that you can use it in your car.

Now, this is all well and good but I think the iPod is quite hard to set up if you're not at all used to computers; I had to have a friend who has already got an iPod to help me. You need to register it and download iTunes before you can start putting music onto it. It also charges through your computer. I had to set mine up so that everything you plug it in it doesn't "sync" with your computer - for example, if you put your music into iTunes (and therefore have it sitting on your hard disk) and then wipe the music off your computer, the next time you plug your iPod in it syncs with iTunes and wipes all your music off your iPod too. Not useful when you've spent a long time uploading music from CDs!

Took me awhile to get rid of that annoying little kink!

It has gotten stuck/frozen a few times, but this is easily fixed by a reset (again had to ask my friend how to do it!) by holding down a few of the buttons. It also says that the iPod is "scratch resistant" which isn't completely accurate; mine has plenty of scratches from being used while travelling.

Overall I like the design of the iPod, but I think you can probably get something of similar quality with regards to playback for a smaller price tag.

Summary: Get a smaller price tag for the same quality.
