Advantages: Looks good - easy to use - radio - video recording - games - live pause
Disadvantages: 8GB not enough for my needs - extra features drain battery
I have a Black Nano which was given to me as a Christmas present about 18 months ago and its had some pretty heavy usage. At least two hours everyday on my commute to work. Not to mention car journeys, I have an adaptor so it can be connected to my car stereo. The only problem I have ever had with it and potentially embarrassing was one morning on the packed commuter train it decided to suddenly switch to loudspeaker. The only way I could get it to revert back to playing through the headphones was by plugging it into my laptop when I got home. It updated for ages and then worked perfectly again.
When it comes to replacing my Nano, I will definitely get one with more storage space. Eight GB doesn't hold my iTunes library and I'm not good with making decisions especially when it comes to what to include and what not to. There is the option to add photo's but as I say it can't hold all of the music I have so I don't want to waste precious space with photos.
The headphones were rubbish and have long since gone in the bin but I think that's standard for Apple headphones that come with an mp3 player. I doubt very much you are buying it for those anyway.
I find it needs charging about once a week but considering I get about 12hours use from it, I don't think that's too bad. I haven't noticed that the battery life has decreased in the time I've owned it and it charges pretty quickly. That said I only use it to play music, on the rare occasions I've played one of the games on it - it seems to drain the battery.
Cosmetically, it looks good to me and even with being thrown about in my handbag everyday, it still looks good. It's small, but not flimsy and I don't worry that it would break if I dropped it. Although I do have a plastic case for it which has protected it from any potential scratches.
I would recommend the Nano but as I say, if I was to replace mine I would probably opt for one with a larger storage space as I feel its worth the extra.
Summary: Good basic MP3 player
