Advantages: Compact, well designed, excellent touch screen, great looking device, good value
Disadvantages: None
With my mums 50th birthday coming up and her working long hours as a care worker I decided that I was going to get her a new Ipod as I know she used to have a previous version and used it for walking to and from work and also for unwinding at night on sleepovers so with the new Ipod nano out I picked one up and have worked on setting it up and testing it so thought it fair to offer an opinion.
Apple have for a number of years now been known for their exceptional music playing device the Ipod and following on from the success of the classic (a larger music player with a big capacity) the nano became a hugely successful addition so with the 6th generation of this we now see a tiny player which is only just bigger than its 1.54" screen. The player comes in a number of exciting colours (blue, green, orange, cobalt grey, pink and red from the apple store) and looks exceptionally well made as you would expect from Apple.
What does the player deliver?
The Ipod nano maybe small but it certainly doesn't mean that it doesn't deliver on functionality with music playing being just one of the options. Your player includes the functions to allow you to listen to radio (including the ability to pause live radio too), shake to change song, use it as a pedometer and more.
This is a music player so why try to be more than you are? Thankfully Apple listened and took out the cameras and stuff to allow for a simple, small touch screen controlled Ipod that delivers brilliance in what it should rather than mediocrity where it should not venture.
Why go for the Nano?
The nano maybe small but with the ability to hold a few thousand songs (I managed 4000 on my mums) you have plenty of choice there so you needn't get bored and as with all Ipods it is simple to upload your music so therefore you don't mind doing this on a fairly regular basis.
The touch screen is of a good quality and does not feel like it will break straight away as with some touch screens out there and even although it is a small screen it is clear and easy to make out.
The clip built onto the back of the player is well thought out and strong so not likely to break immediately so will allow you to simply click and go.
A good looking device which offers up simple to use controls in a great little package with a clip to keep it simple and not lose it and all at good value this is something which will be hugely popular and I highly recommend.
Summary: A well thought out and executed music device that goes back to its roots
