Introduction
**********

I have always used my beloved iPhone as my main digital music player. In fact I use it for everything. That was however, until it became completely full. I didn't even have room for one more song! That was when I made the decision to buy a separate iPod, as 8GB of the 16GB on my phone was music. I had a look around and I finally decided on the iPod Nano.

Design
******

The iPod Nano is tiny! And I mean tiny. It is about the size of four first class stamps in a square and the thickness of an iPhone 4. The front is completely taken up by a touch screen, and the back is a clip. The touch screen is really responsive and that can sometimes be a bit annoying. It is a really good idea and most of the time works really well, but if you are trying to change a song or go through the menus while moving, it can be a bit difficult as it is very easy to press the wrong thing. Most of the time I end up stopping what I am doing, changing the song and then carrying on. I think the problems is a combination of the screen being fairly small and it being so sensitive. The clip on the back is really useful. You can clip it to anything, the strap of a bag, your pocket, your tie, anything! And it will stay there, it will not fall off.

There is the standard connector on the bottom with a headphone socket, into which any set of headphones will fit and a lock button and volume buttons on the top. This is really good as it makes changing to volume really easy.

Software
*******

The software is really easy to use with the touch screen. On the home screen there is a battery life indicator and the time at the top and several menu buttons in the middle of the screen. To move between the menus you just swipe your finger and the slide along. On my iPod they are; Now Playing, Music, Radio, Clock and Settings. You can change which menus are displayed on the home screen somewhere in the settings. To choose anyone of the menus you just touch it. Simples! To go backwards to the previous menu you swipe across the screen from left to right. At first this took a bit of getting used to. I kept looking for a button to return to the home screen, but once you get used to it, it really works and is designed really well.

Music
*****

When you bring up the music menu you have several options. They are; Genius Mixes, Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs, Genres, Composers, Compilations, Audiobooks, Podcasts and iTunes U. This makes is very easy to find that one song you want to listen to out of the 2000 songs you own! If you get a long list of artists or songs for example you can jump to a letter by moving your finger up and down on the right hand side, making it even easier. When the song is playing the screen is completely filled with the album cover.

Other Features
************

The clock feature is very cool. When you open the clock menu the screen is basically turned into a watch. You can even by straps to clip it onto and actually use it as a watch, although I have never seen anyone do this! There are several designs to choose from including Kermit the frog and Mickey Mouse!

You can store and display your photos. I have never used this but I would think the screen is too small to actually see any detail.

There is a FM radio. All you need for this to work is a set of headphones as this act as the ariel - any headphones will work. You can tune your favourite stations in and it will save them for you.

It also has fitness features. I again have never used any of these so cannot really comment but they include a pedometer and a running app which lets you choose your workout music and measures how long and far you run.

What I think
***********

I love my iPod touch. Its light, very small and very easy to use. The only downside is the screen maybe a bit too small which makes it very easy to choose to wrong option, other than that its perfect! If you want to add apps and watch videos then definitely go for the iPod touch, but if its just music you're after then go for this one.

Summary: A Good choice if you just want to play songs.
