Disadvantages: None that spring to mind
Perhaps my second favourite present this year is my Apple iPod Nano 6G 8GB in Graphite. I will tell you all about my first favourite at a later date... but it's a close call! I have been asking for this model iPod for a while now - and finally on Christmas day (much to my absolute delight) I unwrapped it finally. The reason I wanted this, was because I don't 'game' as such and I use my much loved Android phone for calls / texts / photos, etc so I literally want an iPod for music - the classics for me are too chunky, the 3G Nano I did have was only 4GB and I wanted more capacity and a shuffle drives me mad because you can't see what track you're playing - and a Touch just isn't an option for me because there's too many functions which would be completely wasted.
So, the Nano it was for me! The design is probably the most covetable feature of this model. It's 4cm square roughly and less than a centimetre deep making it the tiniest bit of gadgetry I've owned! It has the clip which featured on the shuffle, making it perfect for those of you who actually do a bit of exercise and it is very light, weighing in at around 20g! It comes in a range of colours, like I mentioned, mine is graphite, it has a high shine metallic finish and looks every inch the cool accessory it is designed to be.
The memory is 8GB and is internal (there's no memory card), it comes with a USB and when you plug it in to your computer you just need to follow the basic instructions included within the box to work out iTunes and downloading / importing music (very simple, lots of forums to help you out there). It holds around 1100 songs / 80 albums approximately depending on album / track length / size. It also boasts a powerful little FM Radio and digital photo playback via slideshows. It has a built in pedometer for the fitness conscious and a built in clock. There are two modes, sleep and wake - no hold button this time around which actually suits me better, though it might put some people off buying it.
The display is one of my favourite features. It's a full colour LCD screen which is touch activated and it has a powerful 240 x 240 resolution, making album artwork look fantastic on the display. You can turn the display around and swipe / hold to customise the menus to your preferences. It supports all the usual languages and it has Nike + iPod support - again for those of you who actually attend a gym! The output mode is Stereo and it has a built in digital graphic equaliser - that's too technical for me, but I think the sound quality is absolutely fantastic from such a small piece of equipment, so I haven't needed to amend any of the settings. The player supports WAV, MP3, etc and you can use shuffle, repeat all and repeat one. It also has the lovely playlist / on-the-go playlists of the previous Nano generations. If you haven't been a Nano follower then you will find it easy enough to work out, all you do to add a track to your playlist is press it on the screen and hold until it flashes - voile a! It's in your playlist!
The battery takes around 3 hours to charge fully and on a full charge will last around 24 hours continuous play - if you don't play music 24 hours solid and like me use it for a couple of hours a day, you could get up to a fortnight or so from a single charge! In the box you get headphones, USB cable, iPod and instructions. It's plain and simple. It costs around £129 for an 8GB and is also available in 16GB. You can buy the player directly from the Apple iShop, or you can go to Argos, Play.com, Amazon etc - shop around as they are all competition and you might get a really good deal.
Highly recommended for the music enthusiast and those who need simplicity from their gadgets!
