Advantages: Touch screen, more compact
Disadvantages: Less features than fourth/fifth gen Nano, hard to use whilst running.
The newest iPod Nano has been given a completely different look, the clickwheel is gone and instead we've been given a 1.5" touch screen. While this does mean the new Nano is much smaller than the old one, it does mean the Nano has been cut down on features just to keep the iPod small and, I suspect, so that Apple can keep the iPod line feeling fresh.
Of course, if you are just looking for a pure mp3 player and don't like the absence of a screen on an iPod shuffle, this is a good choice, but if you are willing to shop around you could find the old fifth generation Nano for around the same price. The older Nano is bigger, but you get games, a camera, and a bigger screen.
I did find that the new iPod Nano is a bit more difficult to use when running, as you obviously can't feel the virtual buttons on the touch screen. With my older fourth gen Nano it was quite easy to find the skip button while the iPod was in my pocket.
Summary: A nice little mp3 player if you just want music with a screen.
