Apple iPod nano (6G) 8 GB
Advantages: large enough memory, customisable, take anywhere.
Disadvantages: hold button broke, occasionally lost it because it is so small
I got my Ipod nano in their replacement scheme where you could trade in your old 1st generation nano and receive a new nano because of overheating faults with the 1st gen. I can't comment or complain about the price as I got mine virtually for free and it still works perfectly over a year later. When I first received it in the post I could not believe how small it actually was. The colour I received was silver which I like.
I have always loved music so I filled the 7.7GB of space you actually get straight away. The touch screen allows you to effortlessly scroll down (or up) to your favourite artist or song. The hold button now allows you to select the option of skipping the song you're listening to with a double click or stop/start the song with a double click. Unfortunately you cannot have both, it is one or the other.
You can put your own photos on it, but I opted not to as I like to just have music. I have used it to listen to audio books and it worked perfectly.
I love to keep fit and I am an avid runner so the Nike+ app was a godsend for me. The pedometer accurately tracks your steps and how far you have walked, you don't even have to clip it to your clothing, it will track your steps even in a pocket. I love the Nike+ running app, it can track your speed and distance and you can also set yourself goals with it e.g. run for an hour or 6 miles. It also will tell you how many calories you have burned, which you can make even more specific if you input your weight and height Once you are done with your run you can connect your Ipod with your PC and it will send the details of your workout to the Nike+ where you can monitor you progress. It can very useful for me when training for a marathon last year.
The built in radio is a nice little thing . You can get bored listening to the same old music all the time, so the radio is a welcome break. I enjoy listening to when going to bed or when going for walks.
It also has a clock app where you can see the current time and even change the clock face to 1 of 18 different faces including Kermit the frog! Along with the clock you get a stopwatch and a timer.
The screen has been pretty scratch resistant considering I take my Ipod everywhere with me. I love the clip on the back. It has been really useful for when I am out running. If I don't have any pockets I can just clip it to the waistband of my shorts, no need to buy a costly armband.
However, after about a year of use the hold button became stuck and I was unable to use my Ipod at all. My warranty with Apple had run out so there was not much I could do but to pay to get it fixed by another company for about £40, which was pretty steep considering it would have been easy to fix. I really couldn't live without my Ipod so I paid to get it repaired. Considering Apple has high quality products and t a respected company, I was a little disappointed about the hold button becoming stuck.
Overall, I do think it is a good product. It is simple to use and has extra little features that make it more than just your ordinary music player.
Summary: Small player with a large potential and easily used by most.
