Advantages: Well built music player with quality throughout
Disadvantages: Cheap headphones, controls may not be to everyone's liking
This is still my favourite incarnation of any iPod to date and I was incredibly pleased when I was gifted with one (black) on my Birthday last year. Aesthetically, I find it to be far superior to any other version of the Nano and it also comes with a pleasing quality of functionality to boot.
Pros:
Battery life - I get roughly a fortnights' use out of this between charges (at roughly two hours' use a day)
Screen - Bright and clean graphics, with crisp lines
Looks - gorgeous!
Size - Very compact
Build - Robust enough for daily use. I wouldn't trust it to pass the 'sit' test, but it will last for a good long time if looked after reasonably well
Cons:
Jog dial - you either love or hate this method of control for the iPod. Nobody seems to have come up with any ideas that are far superior to it, but it can be tricky to navigate your way through a large set of records
Headphones - Replace the original headphones a.s.a.p. Apple really should bundle something a bit better quality with their machines
My advice is to try and track one down before they become extinct thanks to the new version of the Nano. This one will be available at a cheaper price and is (as I hope I've explained suitably) a keeper!
Summary: A design classic and a good music player to boot

- 06/01/09 can i just say that the headphones aren't cheap. I have had my nano 3G for over a year and i haven't had to replace the headphones. |
