Advantages: Cheap, Easy to use
Disadvantages: Not alot of Space
This is an excellent purchase for those who want to update their old personal cd player and want to step into the 21st Century.
The Ipod Nano 1GB is excellent value for money and can be picked up for as little as £91.00.
The Ipod nano is exceptionally easy to use with the control wheel providing all the options you would otherwise get on a personal CD player, but with access to over 240 songs at the touch of a button.
For those who are put off by the idea of having to use your computer to arrange your library of music, don't be, apple provide an installation cd which automatically loads everything you need onto the computer and the library interface itself is very easy to use and provides you with excellent features as well as the basics.
To put your cd collection onto your ipod is easy, once you have uploaded your installation CD simply place your music CD into the computer drive and click the CD icon and away you go. The loading process onto your computer is quick and you can listen to the music as you go.
For those who don't have the internet this doesn't cause you any problems although you will have to type the names of the songs and artists you are uploading onto your computer to have this transferred to your ipod, if you have the internet these are automatically updated for you.
The Ipod itself is very small (about the thickness of a pencil) and thus not inconvenient to carry around with you, although be careful not to lose it out of your pocket while working-out down the gym as the Ipod is easily scratched (although not very surprising, drop any electrical equipment out of your pocket, not a good idea).
There is also a variety of accessories for your Ipod Nano the most notable being speakers for your ipod that can be picked up for as little as £20.00 and for anyone with a tiny one-bed flat like me allows you to dispence with that bulky stereo system.
Now to the big downside of the Ipod Nano 1GB and that is the 1GB. You are only able to put 240 songs onto the Ipod and while this seems alot in fact it is actually about 12 CD's.
This isn't a real problem if you keep your library in order and regularly delete those songs you don't want. If however, you have a huge CD collection for just an extra £18.00 you can get 2GB and £48 4GB and for the extra few pounds I think its well worth it.
So for those who want a cheap little CD player this is an excellent buy, but for those with a real taste for music I would suggest more space and the 4GB version.
