Apple iPod nano 2 GB
Advantages: size, literal and memory
Disadvantages: does scratch easy
Having been promising myself a half decent music playing thingy for absolutely ages I ended up plugging for an iPod. I’d been half tempted by other modes such as Mini discs and the older CD players. Thankfully it’s been a buy well worth buying!
The nano is arguably the best budget version of the expanding apple range, this goes from the plain and very basic iPod shuffle to the newest video iPod. The iPod nano is quite tiny, it’s around the size of two of your middle fingers. The screen is colour and is a very respectable size when you consider the overall size of the thing and navigation is done via a movement sensitive click wheel and button. You get all this for around £139 (2GB).
The easy of navigation around the iPod could not be simpler, this is a theme common with the entire iPod range. I find this much easier to use than my old CD player just through the fact that all navigation buttons are used by one finger or thumb most of the time. The 2GB nano model uses some fancy memory in order to get the huge number of songs onto it – in the case of the 2GB model it’s around 500 songs.
The actual process of getting music onto the iPod is incredibly simple and easy to do, once you’ve installed the software you just plug it in, click a few buttons and your there. To change or replace individual songs – as in this age of digitalised music people can often have all of there music on the computer so will want to rotate their music collection – is easy, you just select the song you want and drag and drop, simple!
The iPod comes with other features such as games; these are Brick (Tetris), Parachute (you shoot down parachutists), solitaire and music quiz (this randomly selects songs from your iPod and lets you guess the title). I have found these useful, it actually gives you something to do if you are on the train instead of just sitting there doing nothing. Other features include a stopwatch, notes and a calendar.
Size – both actually and memory
Ease of use
Cost – as I’m a student anything that costs above a penny is bad
I would recommend this as a purchase to absolutely anyone, however if you have the extra few bob defiantly go for the 4GB version of even the 30GB video one. I’ve had no problems with this model, it has come in extremely handy for just walking about, listening to in bed or when the sun decides to make an appearance in this country.
Summary: what can i say, is the past present and future of mobile music
