Advantages: Good screen, cool looks, very user friendly.
Disadvantages: Poor battery life, itunes, no mains charger supplied
Despite many attempts on its life, including washing machines and chlorine water, my nano survived for over 3 years working reliably from day one till it eventually gave up the ghost, the water eventually overcoming it.
What first struck me about the nano was how intuitive it is to use, the scrolling dial and menu system work excellently. The screen is very clear and large enough to see, especially looking quite cool with different album covers.
The first annoyance with the nano was the lack of mains charger- only the USB cable is included so you either need to buy a plug or only charge it up from a computer. Seems like a money printing exercise to me!
Next is the need for Itunes- although free alternatives are available online if you search for them, I found the program slow to use and its unflexible having to use the same computer every time to transfer songs onto the ipod.
Battery life is also a concern, I never expected it to compare with Apple's claims however it deteriorates fairly rapidly, only lasting two hours after having it a year. As its fairly tricky to change the battery, outside the remit of most users this is a pretty big drawback compared to newer versions.
Despite its drawbacks, as the model can be picked up cheap on ebay compared to the new models it is still a good option.
Summary: Good mp3 player, still the coolest one however some drawbacks
