I was lucky enough to win an ipod shuffle in a prize draw - and the first thing i thought was - no screen. The second thing I thought was, awful earphones, and the final thing i thought was ... iTUNES ... no!

However, 2 years later, I have fallen in love with it. Granted it was very expensive for what it is, has very few features, and you could probably get a more feature rich mp3 player for the same price, but if you are looking for a simple, easy to use mp3 player, and you can get a good deal on it, the iPOD shuffle is for you.

There is the option of using the 3rd party real player to transfer music to the shuffle, which I personally much prefer to iTunes, which has a mind of its own.

I would advise spending some time, looking for a good quality pair of headphones, to get the best out of, not only the ipod, but any portable music player, as I found it really made a difference to the quality of the sound.

With regards to the features of the ipod - its relative denudation in this department, is arguably its best feature - switching it on and off is very simple, and then there are only 5 other buttons, allowing you to play, change volume, flick through songs, and "hold". The shuffle option, whilst being the main selling point of the ipod, isnt particularly random in my opinion, but that might be due to way I have used it ... oops.

Lastly, and the reason I am having so much difficulty replacing it, is the fact that it is the perfect usb dongle - with a 1gb capacity, it is very easy to simply put your work on it, and carry it around whilst listening to music.
