Advantages: Good quality, Nice design, Good price
Disadvantages: No display screen
I recently bought this iPod Shuffle for my mum as a Christmas present and I think she is going to love it. She has been saying for a while she would like a little Mp3 player so I thought this would be perfect for her. This little Mp3 player is small and light and the perfect size for her. I did think about buying her a normal iPod player but I thought she may find it a bit too bulky and she doesn't require the memory on an ipod anyway. This one is just perfect.
So what is the iPod shuffle?
The iPod shuffle is a small digital music player which was designed by Apple. Apple have many products out such as laptops and lately, a mobile phone. This is the second iPod shuffle to be released. This particular shuffle was released in 2006 and is of a different style from the previous iPod shuffle. The first iPod shuffle was thin and longer, about 3 times as long as the newer version. Also, you could buy the first version with either 512MB or 1GB of memory and can only buy the second version with 1GB memory. The old shuffle only came in white as well, however, you can buy the latest iPod shuffle in silver, green, blue, pink, orange, red and purple. I think the range of colours is fantastic as there is something to suit everybody, whether you are male or female.
Design
The iPod shuffle is a small, cute and dinky little Mp3 player which holds 1GB of internal memory. The shuffle comes in a variety of colours as mentioned above and measures 1.62 x 1.07 x 0.41 inches. At the back of the iPod, there is a small clip where you can clip your little Mp3 player on to a belt etc which is handy if you are out exercising or simply do not want to carry it whilst walking around. The casing of the shuffle is made from anodized aluminium which is hard-wearing so will prevent damage to the inside of your shuffle, however, it will scratch easily.
At the front of the shuffle there is a circular dial which has functions such as Play, Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind etc. At the side of the shuffle there is a slot for you to insert your headphones which are provided when you purchase your shuffle. It is easy to turn the power on and off your shuffle, which is demonstrated in the instruction booklet also provided.
The only disadvantage I find with the shuffle's design is the fact there is no display screen. Sadly, you cannot see the track name / artist who is playing as get with other iPod designs.
Memory
With the 1GB memory, you can hold over 200 songs on your Mp3 player which I think is more than enough for my mum when she is only going to be using it when travelling on the train to work every day for roughly 20 minutes. With over 200 songs, you can get more than 10 - 15 albums on your shuffle which is great. Obviously, this depends on the size per song.
Music Transfer
You require a PC or MAC computer in order to put music on to your iPod Shuffle. Once you have saved your music on your computer either by downloading music on to iTunes (downloadable music software where you pay to purchase songs) or by your own CD's, it is simple to transfer this music and put it on to your shuffle. To do this, you put your shuffle in the dock provided and this will transfer your music through the headphone jack. If this sounds complicated, full instructions are provided with your iPod. Your iPod will also accept the following formatted music MP3, MP3 VBR, AAC, Protected AAC, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), WAV and AIFF.
Accessories
There are accessories available for your shuffle such as different coloured skins. These simply slide on the casing of your iPod and you will get a different colour, as well as extra protection for your shuffle. You can also buy extra clips incase your one breaks as well as headphones and docking stations.
Where Can I Purchase This?
You can buy your shuffle from shops such as Virgin, HMV, Argos, Asda etc and the price varies. I bought my mum's from HMV for roughly £49.99. But note that some places will not take your iPod back unless there is something wrong with it. So if you fancy exchanging it for another product, this is not always available.
My Opinion
Overall, I think this is a brilliant product. I think the price is extremely reasonable for what you get and iPod is a very well known name. The quality in sound is brilliant and there is a wide range of colours to suit everybody.
